Cracked my windshield

So coming back from a buddies house a rock cought my windshield and cracked it from one side to the other its dunski ive read up on replacing it and i see there is a difference between evo and lancer windshields ours are lighter and thinner but also cost around 500 just for the window has anyone got theirs replaced? ive looked into safelite but i keep hearing bad things about them and the fact that there glass is from china and cheap. i just want to be fixed with no problems...

I had mine replaced several months ago, it was 500-600 NZD. Praise my insurance. Since mine is a rather uncommon EVO we had a discussion around which screen would fit. They told me that all lancers from 95 onwards have the same windshield. I'd imagine it's not unlikely that they might vary in thickness from model to model. So I've ended up with the generic lancer screen and I've caught a few stones in my commute (the road I drive is really bad for it) and so far I've got no cracks or chips, just superficial marks.

I don't know who made the screen.

get a list of preferred glass shops from your insurance.

Call each one. Get quotes. Then call each back, and they will basically bid for your windshield.

Did this with my GTI. Price started at about $400. Ended up getting it replaced with PPG glass, at my house, for $240.

i just went w/ All-Star autoglass, I think they just went w/ the lancer windshield and so far so good. I think the cost was about $239 straight up. I called my insurance and they said it would cost me $500 if i went thru them.

500 seems high... mine has two new cracks due to those great little rocks flying around on the freeway. Ive got a quote for about 200.

Did mine threw safelight about 6 months ago paid around $230 area and had a spot in the windshield that bugged me called them up and they came back and replaced it no questions asked! Now windshields still in good shape no problems! I have heard the same thing with the different windshields but truthfully we live in Washington and the chances of getting another rock shot up in a few months is very high so in my opinion take the cheap route so your only about half as pissed as you would be! Safelight was good! Good customer service, they even called after a few days just to varify I was happy with the install!

My experience with safelite was good. All positive. I do like the fact that they will come to you. I had my windshield replaced this summer and requested OE. Good thing for insurance, otherwise I would have paid 1250 for it.
