It falls under your comprehensive deductible. Unless you have a specific glass endorsement on your policy that waives it. That'll determine whether or not you want to file a claim. no it wouldn't go up if you used insurance.
I've used Safelite down here in North Carolina. They did a fine job on the windshield of my Evo X. I'm not sure how different they are up in NJ where you are.
As far as insurance is concerned, typically glass repair is covered 100% and does not affect your insurance rates. BUT, the crack must be smaller than a dollar bill. Anything bigger than a dollar bill and the windshield needs to be replaced. And full windshield replacement falls under your comprehensive and you have to pay your deductible.
For the OP, it sounds like the crack is bigger than a dollar bill, so getting it filled is out of the question. And, you said your deductible is $500, so you're better off paying out of pocket to get the glass replaced.
Good luck

By the way, you should post your question in the regional thread for NJ. Here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/northeast-region-40/
You'll get better responses from locals who might be able to point you to the best place to get the windshield replaced.

Had safelite do my glass. They scratched the paint around the rear windshield, so now there is a couple of rust spots. Watch for that, when the replace it. Also check the rubber/plastic that goes around the glass, they did a spotty job with the glue/sticky black stuff and left some on the actual windshield. And another thing the rearview mount that is glued to the windshield was crooked. Didn't notice it till a few weeks later. Sorry if it sounds like I am ranting but I expect better work/products for something I had to pay for. Had mine done in Maryland.

$300 is too much.
Take closeup pics of everything around the window to be replaced. Then you can prove damage.
Remember, it's not the company that's the problem. It's the dude installing the window. That idiot could work at ANY glass shop!

Safelite also typically uses their own glass manufactured in China, so it's not the same quality as the OEM glass. They were absolute garbage for a long time, but the quality has come up significantly in the past 5 years or so. Most reviews still claim they're thinner than the OEM glass it replaces, though. Complaints of optical distortions where the window curves/bends are also common.
I had to replace the windshield on my Si, which is huge. I couldn't bring myself to put in some generic glass on a major structural component of the car. I ended up finding a place in town that installs PPG glass (OEM on the Civic), and had them do it. It was $50 more than Safelite. Worth it, IMO.
Mitsubishi using their own glass company complicates things, though. I don't know if you can even get OEM glass for our cars.
If you want to call around, make sure you request "OEM glass". "Dealer glass" has such a high markup that most places will refuse to do it. The only difference between the two is one comes directly from the OEM, and one is OEM with the dealer as a reseller. Since Mitsubishi owns the glass company that makes the windows for our cars, your only options may be Dealer Glass and 3rd Party glass.

I am going with a glass company that this autoshop uses in my town and the autoshop is known for high quality work so i trust this guy only 265 for the windshield and if he has to replace the molding around the windshield then it will be another 60 bucks because he said thats what it cost him to get the molding.
I had my windshield replaced by SafeLite and had no problems with the install or quality of the glass. I had them do my old Corolla XRS a few years back and the glass was actually nicer than the stock one, go figure.
