I allways heard gasoline as well but I think with E85 out that it would be better.

Cost less
Breaks gunk loose in gas tank should be good for IC

Octane doesnt matter. I use the extra gas I have lying around for the lawn motor.

Might as well take all the piping off and clean that as well if its that bad. Also id suggest adding a catch can to prevent this in the future like others have said.

I have been building intercoolers for past three years, and we use a solution. But cleaning it with gasoline is perfectly fine. Obviously do this in a well vented area (Outside is best), and rinse with water afterwards with a regular garden hose.

Stand the cooler on its side and let the water drain. Then just let it dry, and you're good to go.

ps. Acetone or Varsol works just as good, specially if you can spray it with high pressure.

Take a look at your intake pipe. There is a small hose that connects to the valve cover. This is where your oil is coming from. All the extra oil gets dumped into your intake, turbo sucks it up and pushes is down to the intercooler.

By placing a catch can in between, the oil gets trapped annd not passed down to the IC.

I talked to my homie who had an Evo before me and he told me bout the Catch Can, Gunk in the IC, and the whole nine. Apparently he had all these problems also. This weekend we are gonna install Works Throttle Body Shafts Seals, install Catch Can, and clean out the IC. Can't wait to put everything in and hope it works wonders because I'm fed up with the Boost leak issues.... Thank you everyone for all your help and support.

gasoline is rather toxic with MTBE additives and such. would it not be better to use diesel? less additives and dissolves oil gunk nicely.
of course you have to be sure there is no diesel left in the IC
