difficulty starting

I am lost with what is wrong with my car. Every time the car is sitting for a while and i goto start it the car doesn't turn over. all you hear is one loud click which i think it the starter stopping against the flywheel. I have changed the battery (went to genesis mini, the car was ok for awhile then again issues except this time the car would almost not start at all no matter how much cranking. Changed the starter. this helped a bit now the car only doesn't start when its been sitting. I have to crank it and crank it quickly to get it to start. i have checked fuses, relays, grounds. nothing. Help plz.

it has to be the battery is somehow draining slightly when the car is sitting and then doesnt have the cranking power

the only thing on is the alarm, everything else is hooked up to the acc. line. but its a good theory.

The click is the solenoid pulling in and hitting the switch which connects the battery to the starter. This also pushes the starter gear into the flywheel. Then if the starter doesn't run there either is something wrong with the starter or not enough grunt in the battery to turn the starter.

I changed the starter with one that was tested to be perfectly ok. Its so frustrating to think it can be that damn small battery. its new and i haven't seen anyone else having issues with it. i might try something else later and report back.

If you are convinced both the battery and starter are good then what is left is the wiring connecting the starter to the battery. Time to clean connections.

which connectors should i clean? literately with a wire brush clean the connections hooked up to the starter and the battery terminals? i checked on my turbo timer today and the battery voltage says 12.6 which sounds right for a dry cell battery. I know this isn't a measure of amps but it sounds ok to me.

Check the connections and also check the voltage on the battery when it doesnt want to start. That should give you an idea of the condition of the battery.

I believe thats too low to start. Should be at around 12 volts. Could be a bad cell in the battery.
