Yet another AFR thread,

I have been searching and im still not really sure if my car is way off the mark.

I bought the evo about 3 weeks ago, it has an AFR gauge, boost gauge, MBC, k/n intake, turboback exhaust, testpipe (bought from a dealer so I dont know the other history... there could be even more mods that i just dont know of)

the AFR gauge is pretty consistent, when idling between 14-15.5, and if I am coasting it will go to 22.4 and stay (it looks like the gauge maxes out at 22.4) and also if I really get on the gas, I have seen the ratio go lower than 10

Is the car running too rich? I dont know if it was ever tuned, I am assuming it was, but who knows.. so I know I need to get one... just wish there was somewhere closer.

Any input helps, Thanks guys
Derek

im sorry no one ever replied to this, but ur idle is good, 10 is way to f@cking rich and 22.4 means its running massively lean. rich is ok, lean is not good and means bad things. so this is a bump so other smarter members can help u if im wrong

Being full lean off throttle is fine as the motor is not under load. This is the way it is suppose to run, it's called fuel cut under decel.

Car needs to be tuned.

./end

Thanks for the update guys....

Would you venture to say my vehicle has not been tuned due to it being at 22.5 during off throttle? I figured it was tuned since there is an MBC and the afr/boost gauges.

I plan on getting it re tuned but I really cant find time to drive to ER I dont think I have ever seen it go below 10 on WOT and i dont recall seeing it above 16 or 15.5 except for no gas

22.5 is normal for deceleration since it pegs at full lean. do you have any logs of the car from evoscan? that would really show what the car is doing. it should be in the 11-11.5 range from what most people tune for during WOT

evoscan cost $25 or you can use mitsulogger which is free either one can be downloaded. do you have the cable that plugs in under the drivers side dashboard? if so then you can pull the tune from the car with ecuflash and inspect it and compare to a stock tune.

The cord is underneath the passenger side floor mat, and goes into the center console. Ill plug it into a computer and sees what happens

downloaded mitsulogger, ill plug it into my laptop on break and see what happens, it cant screw anything up can it? id hate to ruin my tune if there is one

oh no it wont ruin anything, you have to use ecuflash and have the rom loaded and make changes and then upload to the car for anything to change

I highly recommend you take your car to a tuner and have them sort everything out for you. Unless you understand EFI, then i wouldn't attempt to fix the problem your self.

Oh yeah, i wouldnt dare try to change or fix anything... i dontthink anything is even broken, but just viewing the logger should tell me if the car infact has been tuned, peace of mind i guess.

Ill get it to a tuner when i can find some time either way

As already stated if it's going to 10:1 then it's way too rich and needs tuned. Besides just running better I imagine your giving away a significant amount of HP! If it was tuned in the past then it wasn't tuned properly.

sounds like someone was using an extension cable. the one in your car is female as well? that's odd. what's at the other end of it? hard-wired into something else?
going "full lean" when you let of the gas it normal. it's supposed to do that.
our cars, when stock, run SICK rich. it sounds like you are on the stock tune.
you should idle in the 14.5-16 range. it will oscillate.

in addition to WAY rich, our cars also have quite a bit more timing than they need. this results in knock and timing retard, so the car makes even less power.
get the car tuned and you will notice it's way more fun to drive.

you could maybe trying hooking up the factory boost controller and see if your numbers get better if it is still there.
