Hey guys I'm installing some VDO gauges on the 42 draft design panel and for the illumination I want to tap the dimmer wire on the hvac or the radio except I dont know which wire. I dont want to go all the way to the dimmer switch.

I tried the green wire with white strip and the gauges light up but dont dim.

PS please, I already searched and most want just constant on and off though I'm looking to dim aswell

 

It didn't work because the green/white wire on the radio harness is not the dimmer control. That wire is on the back of the gauge cluster.

The dimmer for the radio harness is the blue with yellow stripes wire. Do not get it confused with the yellow with blue stripes wire. Hope this helps

 

I failed to mention that the green with white stripe is from the hvac controls.
I just copied the same color that was behind the dimmer switch.

Do you think its the same color on the hvac? I would prefer to use that since its right beneath the gauges

 

i just tapped the wire from the illumination of the ash tray. Once the gauge detects current, it will dim.

 

But its an unnecesarily long wire. If I knew which was the dimmer wire behind the hvac controls that would be awesome. Are there any manuals?
