Built or Rebuilt

Ok so my flame suit is on. I know this is something you find out before you buy a car, but I was caught up in all the excitement and didn't ask. Also I got the car for such a great price that it wasn't that big of a deal that would make or break the sale.

So the guy I bought the car from said the engine was just "rebuilt" now is there anyway I can find out if it is a built motor and can handle more power or it it is just re built with stock components. I do not want to rip apart the car to find out.

I currently have 350 whp and my mods are intake, tbe exhaust, mbc, Kelford 272, Tein s techs, and tuned by Turbo Trix (I emailed them asking and no answer).

The reason I want to know is I was driving the other day and accidentally didn't shift until about 7500 rpms in first. Nothing happened it just got me thinking.

Anyway in summary is there any way to find out if my motor is built or just re built.

Thanks for the help and be nice

u should have an indication what type of rods are in if u take the oil pan off.

Simply ask the seller?
Another indicator would be unusually fresh drive and timing belt. It would be silly to reuse old belts if they had the motor out.

How easy is that to do? Also how would I tell the difference I have never dealt with engine internals.

The timing belts and everything was replaced when the engine was out but it was at the time needed (60k).

You were up to 7500RPM with Kelford 272's?? Did he say he had a better valvetrain in there??

But yeah, I agree, you would have to drop the oil pan to at least see about the crank, rods and pistons.

Retune and turn up the boost and see what happens lol

In all seriousness, unless you pull the thing apart you arent going to tell, easiest way would be as already mentioned by taking the oil pan off to check the rods, the pistons might be a little more difficult to figure out

Call Turbo Trix and see if they can give you any leads on the car or the HP its putting down so you know what it is that you have... crank being replaced to me sounds like it was a rebuild because something bad happened... but just because its rebuild from going KABOOM!!! doesnt mean that its bad from there one out.

I tried to contact Turbo Trix and they didn't respond. He told me the engine didn't blow because that was my first thought. He showed me dyno's one was 324 to the wheels and the second was 348 I believe. I am not sure which tune is on it now, but I have never had any problems with the car so I am hoping its conservative (I am at 21 psi peak).

What do I need to know in either scenerio? If it is built is that just a safety net or can I rev higher with no worries (not that I need to). If it is just re built will I run into and problems?

Only 350 whp? Doubt it is a built motor...definately call Turbotrix to find out. Ask the guy you bought it from for paperwork or reciepts showing build. Of course drop the oil pan and take a look.

Well you said you "emailed" Turbo Trix, pick up the phone and give them a ring and maybe they can help you out.

As for the dyno numbers it doesnt seem to be built but you never know, some people tune ***** to the wall others dont. At 21psi I would say its not built but who is to know until you get some history on the car itself.

There are many different kinds of "built" you could do just the bottom end and think its fine to rev higher and the valve train isn't done and float a valve and bash the living hell out of the internals, or do the rods with no pistons, etc, etc... too many variables to go through but I think you get the idea....
