Did I blow my ECU?

UPDATE

So, I looked at all the fuses. Three fuses are blown. I have pictures of both. I swapped out the horn with the blown fuse, hooked the battery up and it blew again.. I may have found the problem hopefully, my battery fuse is coming in tomorrow hopefully, so i'll get that fixed and 3 other fuses fixed. They all are 10V if that matters any.. Here are the pictures.

So, I put my battery on wrong. Negative then positve. the positive terminal started to smoke.. so.. my negative battery terminal broke and i replaced it. i hooked everything back up. i noticed all my lights were on without the key in it.. the dash showed the high beams and turn signals on. i try to start the car and it just .. hisses is what it sounds like. and the windshield wiper fluid goes on. did i blow my ecu or etacs ecu? or is there a fuse or something thats blown... i have a dyno run today and i dnot think thats going to happen.. need answers ASAP

Heres a video

I don't know about Evo's, but on DSMs that would smoke the ecu and be un-repairable.

replacing ecu may fix this. my 300zxtt although a different car altogether had the same issue when i got it out of the death field it sat in for 8 years. i swapped ecu all dash lights went of and car ran great. but just have to hope that you did not cause more damage to more than just the ecu.

There is a good chance you toasted not only the ecu, but other relays/solenoids that could have received a huge amount more power than they were ever designed to hold.

all you can do is start at ecu and work back through the harness and relays

you may not have fried the ECU. this happened on my honda accord back in the day, and all it did was blow the battery fuse. i'd think mitsu would have been smart enough to design some type of safeguard against this happenening. honda did, so i figure mitsu would too.

You think if that would be the case about the battery fuse it wouldn't turn on at all dont you think? I'm getting lights wouldnt a blown battery fuse not power up anything?

i called it a battery fuse for lack of a better term. when the fuse that protected my accord from the battery surge was blown it still did things like that. lights, horn, etc. it wouldn't turn over though.

you should go into the EVO advanced section or the engine section and ask those guys that work on these things all the time. that, or search online for a schematic of some sort that shows you what all the fuses are...hell, that should be in your owner's manual. or go look at all your fuses, and see if any are blown. if they are, replace them.

i'm just saying, don't assume the worst before you've done any trouble shooting at all.

start by checking your fuses and relays. the ultimate test would be to see if a buddy will lend you their ecu to see if your car starts right up. process of elimination begins, as there are so many electrical pieces that you may or may not have cooked lol

On the IX there are two fuses on the positive terminal of the battery harness connector. One of mine shorted out when I was doing the hookup of my COP ignition and I had to get a replacement from the local Mitsubishi dealer. It was only like $15 I believe.

I am not sure if the IX and the VIII differ in having these fuses or not, but that would be the first thing I would check.

Do you have a picture of it by any chance? I'll let you know if its the same one I have.
