I got my Evo8 a few months a go private sale, found it on craigslist. got it for $17k with 49k miles

 

Drive a few (evo 8, 9 , stock vs mods). I found that to be really helpful because after having driven a few diffrent ones, I could quickly make a decision when I found one I liked. After looking for a year I found an IX with some engine mods and coilovers for just slightly more than what you are planning to spend. Good luck!
