Deer ends track weekend

So my father and I were doing an HPDE at Pocono this weekend. Saturday went great we had fun driving got a couple rides with instructors. Our instructor actually has a track evo IX that he uses for time attack and rally, so it was a great matchup with being able to give me some pointers on the nuiances (sp?) of the car.

Sunday morning we left the hotel and 2 minutes from the track a deer came out of nowhere and ran into the car. I literally never saw it, just cruising along at 50mph with my father following behind me and BAM! POP! My windshield's shattered. We pull over and check the damage. It's not terrible and if he hadn't gotten the windshield we would have been able to finish out the weekend. All in all it looks like I'll need a new driver side door, mirror, fender, fender liner and possibly a hood along with the windshield.

****ty way to end the weekend, I was really looking forward to doing a few more sessions with my instructor, but I guess I'm lucky it wasn't worse. My dad said he had to jam on his brakes b/c the thing flew up like 15 ft in the air and landed in front of him.

At least you killed the deer. Did you kick it a couple times just to relieve your frustration?

Ouch. At least you and your father walked away. This is something it comes up at just about every track day morning meeting. Deer, turtles, geese -- watch for them!

Cars can be fixed.

yeah, they definitely mentioned it. The track is safer b/c nothing's gonna run out in front of you, blah, blah blah. I legit never even saw the thing it didn't run in front of me but somehow hit my side then got to my windshield. Would have been much happier if he just bounced off the side of the car, could have salvaged the weekend at least.

Hope you got some meat out of the deal! It should be nice an tenderized for you... biggest thing is that you're safe, especially since it hit the windshield.
