Blowing Smoke & Running Bad
That's called a boost leak, and was the cause of the rough running. Causing your car to run rich would result in black smoke, not white. There is absolutely nothing the ECU controls that can cause white smoke.
Also, there is no way that the intercooler pipe was sucking water up, unless you were driving through a lake. And even if it somehow did, it's after the MAF, so I'm not sure how you think the MAF is the problem.

lower intercooler pipe cuppler was loose and letting in water. Perrin intake was over soaked with oil, and the aftereffect was an over-soiled MAF. Changed the MAF, clamped properly down the pipe, and the vehicle is running perfectly. The car was never continuously smoking from the exhaust, but a cloud was coming out due to the car's running too rich, and a misfire from the MAF.
Regardless, car's working great, scheduling a tune ASAP.
