evo 7 or evo 8

I am interested in buying an evo 7 or evo 8 but need a litle help on deciding. what is bothering me is that the 5 speed gearbox is better for dragging but in japan only the 7 comes with that gearbox and the evo 8 has the 6 speed. is there any way of making the evo 6 speed ratios longer for quarter mile racing? or should i just get the evo 7 cause it already has a gearbox more suited for drag racing. my intentions is to build a low10 sec evo or try to break into the 9s. i already have a 10 sec gc8 sti sti but want to do a new project now again. all help and advice would be appreciated.

10 second STI.... You should be all over Youtube since that's almost as likely as seeing a unicorn.

You can get the 8 and convert it to a 5 speed. For your goals, you'll probably need to upgrade the trans anyway so might as well, right?
