Question Best alarm system?

My parrents want to buy me a car alarm for Christmas. What are some of the best alarm systems for the car? I was thinking of a 2-way pager alarm.

If you can please post the price and where you got it from, and if you got it installed how much.

Thanks for your help

Brett

Honestly just get Lo Jack and the Lo Jack paging alarm... I'm so pissed I didn't go that route... I have Lo Jack but I didn't get the paging alarm from them because I thought it was too costly.. Later found out it was only $395 installed... Ended up gettig an AST Ultra Start 2 way paging alarm with remote start which ended up costing me $585 installed and I ****in hate the damn thing... I can never get the remote start to work because you have to put it in reserve mode or something before you leave the car and to top it off the alarm place ****in chopped up all the wiring really really good... Plus if you have a TT you have to deal with those issues as well... Go with Lo Jack all the way and it ends up paying for itself with lower insurance rates over the years..

I like the Code Alarms, particularly the Elite series. The one I have now is several years old, but still works great. Code may have some newer stuff out there, but I don't know. Mine has all the basic stuff, plus lots of extras. I installed a trunk release that I control with the remote. I can roll the windows up and down with the remote, as well as open and close the sunroof. It has a motion detector inside and a sensor under the hood in case someone can get the hood up. The shock sensor has a very wide range of sensitivity, so that the alarm isn't screaming if some punk with a loud muffler goes by or something like that. It just chirps, unless there is some serious banging on the car. It has a remote starter option too, but I'm not using that with the m/t. Oh, I can also turn my stereo on and off with the remote...not real useful but it's fun

All in all, the best alarm out there in my book.

Well once I get my Evo I will be getting an Alladin alarm, they can be found (or used to be) on e-bay. I have a friend that does mobile installation that hooks me up, but anyways I have the Alladin alarm in all my cars and I love it. It has remote start, paging, dual stage shock sensor, built in turbo timer.. etc and only costs me $300 installed

If budget is not a consideration, look into real time GPS tracking systems. Big up front payment and low monthly payments for internet tracking capability. If stolen, get on the internet, track car, call police.

The Code Alarm that I have is about 8 years old, and I got it in Illinois. I've since moved to California, and I haven't seen any dealers around here that carry it (although I haven't looked too hard). Code's webpage is under construction right now, and I don't know how long it's been that way.

www.codl.com

When I bought it, I think it was around $600, but I really don't remember the details. When I just searched online, I saw what looked like lots of newer models that were a lot cheaper. I'm going to try to call them (there number is on the website) in the next few days, and I'll let you all know what I find out.

I don't want to brag over an 8 year old alarm, but for what I've seen of some of these newer alarms like Viper and even the tracking system things like LoJack and OnStar, etc., Code has got them all beat. I mentioned before about all of the cool extras that it can do, but you can also tack on tracking, paging, and all that stuff. Sorry, I'm just not up to date with all of the features right now. If anyone in SoCal knows of any Code dealers, please do tell.

There's an even better system out there by Boomerang Tracker. The Boomerang works on the GSM cellular system (rather than using GPS), so you can actually still track the car even if it's hidden in a shipping container or in an underground garage. With the GPS-based systems your car is invisible if it's not out in the open where the satellites can track it.

What I didn't like about LoJack is how you have to call them to report the car stolen. By the time you find out the car's gone, it may already be on a boat somewhere or wrapped around a telephone pole. The Boomerang comes with a little keyfob thingy. If the key is not in the car when the car is started or if the car is moved without the keyfob (e.g., on a flatbed truck) the tracking system automatically activates. The Boomerang people call you on your cellphone, pager, home phone, etc. to ask you what's going on. If you don't tell them everything is OK, then they'll activate their own recovery team (they even have choppers!) as well as notify the local police. Also, if your car crosses the border into Mexico it automatically activates (you have to tell them ahead of time if you will drive out of the country). Anyway, it sounds like a better deal to me than LoJack. I'm planning on getting the Boomerang next week.

Here's the website: Boomerang Tracker

The top-of-the-line Boomerang 2 costs about $350 installed. Then there's a $150 per year service fee. It's basically the same as the LoJack in terms of cost.
