Everyone read this!!

we've seen tons of boost leak issues recently.. even when people say they pressure test.

BOTTOM LINE...

if your shop does not pressure test your car before tuning or after CHANGING ANY parts of the pressurized or intake system... TAKE UR CAR SOMEWHERE ELSE!

CBRD makes a great point. In a MAF based car, having leaks post MAF can cause a lot of issues both long and short term. It can also really effect how the car runs. In the evo and other turboed cars the complexity added with additional leak points can really make or break how well your car runs AND RESPONDS TO MODIFICATIONS. Not addressing boost leaks prior to a tune can completely ruin the results.

unfortunately until now i have never heard of a shop that will boost test your car in a test session by default, they dont want to bother with it... not even some of the top names in the tristate areas dont do it. they'll tune it anyways even if they notice the leaks, take your money AND tell you to do it yourself and return.

i guess CBRD is worth the extra penny for the service

i read in some forums that they will charge you an hr flat rate (80.00 to 125.00) to do a boost leak test in top of the tuning fee.

disclaimer:
I have not experience this charges when my car was tuned, or I'm saying is the case here.

HAHAHAHAHA. Anyone who would pay someone 80 to 125 to do a Boost Leak Test should not be driving a turbocharged performance car.

The reason most shops don't do it is because on neglected vehicles that boost leak turns into a 2-3 hour goose chase of extrapolating issues one after another... which they weren't scheduled to work on... they were scheduled for a dyno session not a 2-3 hours diagnostic and fix session...

Why do you say that? Its bad to pay someone to make sure the test is done right and everything is fixed properly?

lots more leaks also cause of colder weather. seals get hardened etc. i notice it also in the winter every year.

i have trouble pressurizing past 35psi tho, my coupler pops off my turbo inlet and almost causes me a heart attack every time it occurs.

water and soap in a spray bottle is your friend. i just wish i could get my damn thing to stay on the turbo inlet past 30psi.

i can hold 20 down to 0 for like 5minutes in my car.

I feel that way too many people own these cars and cannot perform simple maintenance tasks that are required to to keep them maintained properly.

Hey if you have 125 bucks you wanna throw away to someone for a using a part that cost <5 bucks to make. More power to ya.

These are usually the guys who have their EVO a couple months and realize they cannot afford it due to labor and maintenance costs then someone else ends up with their poor maintained evo

I have a question a local shop did a pressure test at 45 PSI.

At 30 PSI it held up just fine no boost leak but they kept takingit up and eventually my throttle body gasket went bad. Was this just the shop trying to make a quick buck off of me doing a PSI test at 45 PSI when my car is only set up 23 PSI.

theres no need to do 45psi. if it wasnt leaking at 30 and you dont boost 30 then im gonna say yes.. they wanted it to leak

I require doing a boost leak test before I will start tuning any car. I also recommend a boost leak test after changing any IC piping.

I charge only $40 to do a BLT (boost leak test). This does not including fixing of the leaks.
