missing under load.... help?

ever since i have owned my evo it has always put out black smoke and the cel light comes on when under a hard pull. i never feel any loose of power( or anything abnormal), but people tell me its alot of smoke and they definitely hear a definite miss. yes i have changed plugs and wires and what not... just searching for ideas. the car does not burn oil btw. and no i haven't done a compression test but will soon.

Tune is possible, and what plugs are you running? When I purchased my car it had those iridium plugs which are fine, FOR A STOCK CAR, higher boost requires copper plugs, check out NGK's BPR7ES.

On an '03 throwing the p0300 code will also affect how the engines runs. Get rid of the code and I'm thinking your problem will be solved.

black smoke is fuel not oil..does the car have a wideband? ILL bet its not a misfire but detination from being to rich...and yes you can get rid of the code but you will have to do it when you tune it...

I deleted the code after i put my cams in i also iwould throw the misfire code if i let it idle for long periods of time or if i held the NLS for to long..

my guess's are
#1 needs a tune
#2 may need new plugs
#3 spark plug gapping may be off

it happend to me twice the 1st time i was running to rich so i got it tuned solved problem 2nd time i just fuc-ked up the plug gapping i regapped the plugs it stopped blowing out under boost

good luck with figuring out the problem

Hardly impossible. You can buy a creader on ebay and once plugged into the port it won't code. Of course, all codes are shut off. Or, since you are thinking about having your car tuned, have the shop shut off the p0300 code while you are there. Your car willl never flag that code again.
