Rip 2003 viii

Just wanted to say a few things in light of my recent accident. On December 9th my driver side rear tire blew out which threw my Evo into a pretty sick skid across the road. It abruptly caught traction and was thrown into a decent sized ditch and was thrown back onto the road. I'm still to this day baffled by exactly what went wrong with the tire that blew out on me. For clarification the rear tires were Bridgestone Potenza S-02 with less than 2K miles on them. To get to my point, Makes sure you check your tires, even if theyre new it doesnt matter. Mine were damn near brand new and it blew out on me. I was going 55-60mph in the process of passing another vehicle on a 2 lane highway and this is what the aftermath of my Evo was after the blowout. I nor any of the other 3 passengers were seriously injured, thank god for seat belts! Be careful out there guys and gals!

If anyone could post thses so everyone could see them in the thread it'd be appreciated.

I have no clue, and neither do any of the guys I work with. I was just driving about to pass and my *** end kicked out on me and BAM....into the ditch I went. We found the chunk of tire that blew off and it was definitely a chunk

contact the tire company and try and see what they will do for you?

obviously it would be hard to prove that it was due to a defect and not over inflation under inflation or pot hole/ debris

glad your all ok.

also what do you mean the rear tires were bridgestones...were you running different tires on the front?

Yea the fronts were goodyear Eagles which were on it when I bought it back in June. Yea I know having 2 different types of tires front and rear werent good for the car.

I've tried contacting the store that sold the tires to my dad while I was deployed to Afghanistan and I got the shaft from them. Needless to say I'll be diving deeper into this avenue to see if theres anything that I may be able to get in return...we'll see

I talked to my insurance adjuster on Friday afternoon, the car is totaled...which I figured anyways. Right now I'm looking for another Evo, preferrably around Ohio under 16K....If anyone knows anyone around there selling one please PM me.

glad you're ok...I can definitely understand how it could have happened..I got a flat on my passenger rear tire while driving home from work. I didn't notice it at first (wasn't completely flat at the time) and I went to pass a car and the car got all squirrelly on me. I chocked it up to wet roads at the time, but when I stopped a mile down the road, I saw that the rim was only an inch and a half off of the road...good luck on finding your new toy

On this same track...it is possible to buy "brand new" tires that have been sitting on the racks for years. If you look on the sidewall of the tires, you will see a code stamped that will tell you the manufacturing date of the tires.

Thanks for the kind words guys. The tires were purchased in the last week of October. I'm pretty **** about looking over the car since I'm a mechanic on base, but as a few of you stated it is very possible to have been sold a set of tires that were sitting on the rack for a decent amount of time. Ultimately its just a car...as sad as it is to see her in all those pieces, I'd rather see the car that way than 3 of my troops I supervise.

I looked up parts and prices on Mitsubishiparts.net for everything I thought needed replaced based on the damage I remember seeing and it was a hefty price tag....close to 43K. That didnt include any tranny work that might have needed performed, engine work or any paint or body work. I would take an educated guess that it would cost close to 55K to completely rebuild it....with OEM parts.

Finding another with good mileage and not beat on has been a task. Mine was by no means mint condition, but an 03 with 70K miles unmodded was a pretty good steal for 14K when I bought her. I'll find another one...just need some patience.

Rockman, thanks for the PM...I'll definitely look into it.
