Surface rust on turbo kit....already??

I purchased the ETS 3582R turbo kit about a month ago so that's about how long it's been on the car. The flange attached to the head as well as the flange attached from the turbo to the manifold both have a substantial amount of surface rust on them. Is this normal? I was kind of hoping it would stay looking decent for some time. It's really unappealing aesthetically if you catch my drift.

Each runner has a small amount on it, but I can't understand why it would look this bad so fast. The engine bay has not been washed so other than normal amount of water that gets into the engine bay there is nothing I can think of that would cause this.

What's peculiar to me is the TurboTrix 50trim kit I had on there before that was on the car for a couple years didn't rust like this at all and it wasn't coated.

I wanted to get the mani coated anyway, but damn I didn't think I was going to HAVE to.

some kits I see look rough, some dont. I'm guessing its the type of steel they use, and the type of weather the car sees.

thats allot of money I want it to look good and perform

I've seen this on a few aftermarket manifolds but that steel is so thick it would be many many years before anything will even begin to happen.

Maybe It's not stainless steel like there old pipings. Jk. It's normal. People have it coated so it wouldn't look like that.

The flange might be mild steel.

From what I've heard, some manufacturers use mild steel on manifold flanges since it doesn't crack as easy as stainless.

Makes sense. Thanks guys.

I trust ETS with their design I just kind of expected it to look new for a little longer than a month. Other than it being cold here it hasn't really been driven in rain or anything like that. I do plan to get it coated in the next few months so that I don't open up my engine bay and have it looking like ***...plus to help with the heat

Perfectly normal.
If we media blast a part that is made out of mild steel, it will begin to rust within a matter of days of just sitting.

its not stainless steel, what do you expect?
id rather have my manifold hold up and last then having a section of it not rust.
if its that big of a deal, just get it coated and you will never see rust again

Try to get some sort of metal polish and polish most of it out.. if the rust isn't deep you'll be able to get most of it cleaned up if not All of it cleaned up and it'll be back to looking like new.

With all that heat and water on certain days it really beats on the material.

Actually a lot of it rubs right off with my fingers.

The surface rust didn't scare me at all I was just perplexed that it had happened so fast. Like I said I trust ETS with their products so I wasn't worried. And the fact that my old manifold didn't rust like at all confused me. I understand different metal types will react to the environment differently just the amount of time in which this happened brought up questions.

When I pull of the IM and throttle body to be ported I was planning on pulling this and having it coated. I'll do some research on coating, but any one have some quick suggestions on where to get this coated?

swaintech is some real good stuff. not just for looks, keeps the heat in the exhaust and out of the engine bay. only thing is, since its white, it can get dirty more easily then other coatings and i hear they arent the easiest to clean. since its not a smooth coating.
