Help. Need Advice- Got a ticket

Got a ticket in CT. Offence is "Failure to Obey STC Sign" -Statute 14-298 for $92.
It has an actual speed and posted speed listed. The officer said he was cutting me a break by charging me with this offence, rather than speeding.

Should I send it in not guilty? I'm afraid that because there is a speed listed, it will be too difficult to fight. Does anyone know if this will asses points on my license or make my insurance go up? I read the statute, I don't think it will assess points. Should I just pay it or is there a way to fight this?

"Sec. 14-298. State Traffic Commission. There shall be within the Department of Transportation a State Traffic Commission. Said Traffic Commission shall consist of the Commissioner of Transportation, the Commissioner of Public Safety and the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles. For the purpose of standardization and uniformity, said commission shall adopt and cause to be printed for publication regulations establishing a uniform system of traffic control signals, devices, signs and markings consistent with the provisions of this chapter for use upon the public highways. The commissioner shall make known to the General Assembly the availability of such regulations and any requesting member shall be sent a written copy or electronic storage media of such regulations by the commissioner. Taking into consideration the public safety and convenience with respect to the width and character of the highways and roads affected, the density of traffic thereon and the character of such traffic, said commission shall also adopt regulations, in cooperation and agreement with local traffic authorities, governing the use of state highways and roads on state-owned properties, and the operation of vehicles including but not limited to motor vehicles, as defined by section 14-1, and bicycles, as defined by section 14-286, thereon. A list of limited-access highways shall be published with such regulations and said list shall be revised and published once each year. The commissioner shall make known to the General Assembly the availability of such regulations and list and any requesting member shall be sent a written copy or electronic storage media of such regulations and list by the commissioner. A list of limited-access highways opened to traffic by the Commissioner of Transportation in the interim period between publications shall be maintained in the office of the State Traffic Commission and such regulations shall apply to the use of such listed highways. Said commission shall also make regulations, in cooperation and agreement with local traffic authorities, respecting the use by through truck traffic of streets and highways within the limits of, and under the jurisdiction of, any city, town or borough of this state for the protection and safety of the public. If said commission determines that the prohibition of through truck traffic on any street or highway is necessary because of an immediate and imminent threat to the public health and safety and the local traffic authority is precluded for any reason from acting on such prohibition, the commission, if it is not otherwise precluded from so acting, may impose such prohibition. Said commission may place and maintain traffic control signals, signs, markings and other safety devices, which it deems to be in the interests of public safety, upon such highways as come within the jurisdiction of said commission as set forth in section 14-297. The traffic authority of any city, town or borough may place and maintain traffic control signals, signs, markings and other safety devices upon the highways under its jurisdiction, and all such signals, devices, signs and markings shall conform to the regulations established by said commission in accordance with this chapter, and such traffic authority shall, with respect to traffic control signals, conform to the provisions of section 14-299."

Thanks!

If you didnt get any points, I would just take it on the chin and pay. The hassle of not going to court is worth it to me.

Why don't you call the court and ask what the penalty is for this offense...isn't that common sense?

I think you should just own up to it and let it be done.

I guess it would make sense to call the court. As far as owning up to it, it's not a matter of pride. I care more about my insurance rates and how they may be affected.

Call the court and they will tell you everything you need to know. Just pay the fine and it should be a done deal. If points do follow take a driving course online and it will be as if it almost never happened.

Insurance will only rise if there were points deducted from your ticket. If it was just a basic traffic violation ticket without any points involved your insurance will not go up. I would try an fight it in court, it never hurts to try if you have the time.

Just pay the fine. This is a minor traffic violation and will not be reported to insurance. He definitely cut you a break by giving this to you in place of a speeding ticket.

1st figure out how much for other offense(STC),

I had a similar ticket a couple of years ago when I had my z32. I was doing 20 over speed limit. I think it was 65 in 45 limit. I went to court, in line hour 2.5 -3 hours. Judge gave about 10-13 people the option to pay full without any point being reported. Hopefully the judge will go easy on you. Just don't go waving around to your insurance about it. GL

I work in insurance, so I have an idea how these things work. We're licensed in most states (though CT is not one of them), and insurance rates don't usually go by the actual DMV points assigned to it (as few carriers actually list the amount of points that you have against you), as they have their own point assignment system that doesn't always coincide with actual driving records. It goes by the actual violation itself, and in most cases, something like a traffic device/sign violation (which you described) is a minor moving violation according to the underwriting guidelines of most insurance carriers in most states that I've dealt with.

As some people have said, your safest bet would be to just go to traffic school (if that is an option) to ensure that the violation does not end up on your driving record. It might not be worth the hassle of fighting it, especially since there isn't much of an argument on your part.

Not necessarily true, my sister's been hit with 5 tickets in the last 3 years. Two of which assessed points. Unfortunately, all 5 showed up on her record when we were getting a new insurance policy even thogh only 2 of them came with points on her license (she's under my policy).

I personally don't think they're going to bust your chops about ONE ticket..

Just pay the ticket. If you weren't speeding in the first place you would have never gotten the ticket, or have had to make this thread about $92
