looking at a car on the other side of the country.. good idea??
he whats up guys, im looking for an evo 8 or 9 and found one but its in the middle of the country.. I live in CT and was wondering if it is a big deal to take a flight over to look at it. Thats not what im worried about. its the payment method and if i should drive it back or ship it? also is there inspection or any hidden details i need to know about before i stick my nose in this?? it is going to be my first evo and i really dont feel like getting screwed. Thanks and let me know what you think about the idea or any comments would be great.
some of the best kept cars are out west and down south... they dont deal with crap weather and freezing temps like we do, so you can find a rust free car out there that probably hasnt been beaten to crap. and in cali there laws are very strict so you can bet that those cars have minimal mods done to them. just my .02
Is the seller a member here?
I purchased my EVO in Wisconsin from a member here. i live in NY. The sent me pictures of the vehicle and answered all my questions. Ran a carfax, sent me all the required information and when i was ready to buy i flew there. I drove it back
The process was painless and i got a good vehicle from a honest seller.

problem is not everybody is honest boss and no sense in wasting money if you have several evos around as stated earlier. I have no evos around me so i had to go up north to get one

this is a good idea as well, very true about everyone not being honest, but your best bet would be to find one for sale on here... always run a carfax also, lots of things can be kept hidden without it. hope you get a car soon man! i just picked another one up after 3 months of no car! you will find the right evo also, patience is key, rushing into a car with no knowledge of it is a perfect setup for disaster. keep us posted on what you do!
driving the car back or shipping it back is up to you. If you wanna drive back your gonna need a temp plate. Theres really no reason why you need to go that far to find an evo. You definitely find one near you if you take the time to look. Dont rush or else your gonna end up with a nightmare
+1, Its a risk you have to take(plane ticket, gas, hotel, car possibly breaking down, ect, ect), but id spends $300 on a plane ticket and another $400 on gas, food, and fresh fluid change before the drive back, to save thousands of dollars.
If its worth it I say do it, but then again you need to do the reaserch have the guy take it to a mech and all that before you waste your time, or if its in good shape have the guy drive it out to you if your serious to buy it.
Not a big deal lol
I imported my IX from florida all the way up to Quebec, Canada ! I paid a broker, his very reliable partner ( a 60 years old guy) flew to Miami and then drove 3500 miles back to Quebec. So the process should be a lot easier for you since you skip all the importation part ! And of course, skip the broker.

initially I would try to call/email up the seller and get a feel if this guy is honest or not by asking some questions. Ask for pics, maintenance records and maybe check to see if they've been actually done by contacting dealer/shop. Also as someone mentioned above, getting member to actually check out the car in person before you get out there is a good idea.
If you can get enough info on the car to know it's a good deal, than I'd head out there with cash and do the deal. I've done this several times, but I've always had enough info from the seller to know it's worth it.
