What is the benefit of having two map tunes?

My question is do I really need a race gas tune and a pump gas tune? Can I just get a tune for race gas and turn down the boost when I use pump gas?

If you plan on running multiple fuels you really should have a tune for each. With how easy it is to switch between maps there's no reason not to.

yes you can. Some people use the second map for a methanol or E85 high boost map which is tuned differently depending on the aggressiveness of the setup. So lowering boost in those cases may not work as well.

Yes I'd say it's necessary to have two different tunes...

The race gas timing may be too much for your pump gas to handle...so lowering the boost might not be even safe enough for it...
