not very hot heater
hello all, i was just wondering if any one else out there has driven there evo in temperatures below 10 degrees. ive read some posts about the temp dial only going to about 3/4 full heat, but it feels like mine goes all the way. this morning on my way to work it was only about 2 degrees and my whole trip to work (about 20 miles) the heat was not that hot, barley even comfortable . not a big deal but i was wondering if any one else had this problem. btw it works just fine above 10 degrees. thanx

haven't been in 10 degree weather yet, but even when mine is off and the dial turned to hot, it still puts out a lot of heat. I'll keep my eye on it this winter, see what happens

I haven't had any problems yet - and I have driven in below freezing weather... something might be amiss in your car...
it was like 15 on my way home from class last night and I had it set to about 2/3 on vent & 3/4 on defrost/floor --> anything else was to hot.

hmmm? maybe ill take out the thermostat tonight and test it. i suppose ill have to drain some coolant to do so. does the evo take the standard green antifreeze?

I have driven it in sub 10 degree weather, and the heater was definitely able to keep up for me. I only had to keep it on 1 or 2 after a little while. Good luck with your car!

Just a couple points:
1.) Before you pull the stat, check your coolant and make sure it's not low!
2.) I had similar problems with my WRX. I've only been down to about 15F so far, so I can't comment on the EVO heater at <10F. But when you are at the limits of the heating capacity, you might try turning DOWN the blower to the second level. As the air passes slower over the heater core, it absorbs more heat, and thus is actually quite a bit hotter. You'll get less volume of air, but if you're sitting in the front seat, that's usually not an issue. On REALLY cold days in my WRX (<5F), if I left it at hi blower, I'd never get warm. But if I tapered it down to 3, then 2, I'd be roasting. It sounds a little odd, but it's true.
