No, it is fine. WOT dumping fuel then throwing in to neutral may not be too good.

I coast a lot in Neutral. Mainly when coming up to a stop and go light or stop sign. Just make sure you're in gear when going around a corner!

Wow lots of stuff getting thrown around here...

First to the OP. It really depends on whether the car is essentially accelerating or cruising. I wouldnt put the stress on the engine while accelerating and then let it go to nothing aka neutral. I hope this makes sense.

As for the brakes please refer to this thread for starters and then do some of your own research on what fits you best:

As for this:

I dont know about you but I prefer to be in control of the car and one aspect of that is the ability for it to maneuver things whether that is by braking steering or accelerating...do you see where I am going here?

You're usually taught (or at least I was) to leave the car in gear until almost to a stop in case you need to suddenly accelerate for any reason. If nothing else, it's a good habit to get in to.

I always throw my car into neutral when stopping cause 3rd gear grinds hard.

This makes sense, but I can't think of a situation where you would need to suddenly accelerate. If you're coming up to a red light, odds are accelerating to avoid being rear-ended would mean accelerating into cross traffic. And if you're cruising in top gear and down to around 15 mph, you won't be going anywhere too fast if you hit the gas. Unless you're saying you downshift all the way to 1st or 2nd at every stop you come up to....

Explain the coasting? Or the turning? I was always told to make sure the car isn't "freewheeling" (i.e. in Neutral) around corners to have maximum control while steering.

You don't NEED one, but a tune will give you the most hp, mpg, and drivability out of any mod you do.
