I also found out -- that evo ecu's are "dual density" making them nearly impossible to repair/work on. Awesome. So hopefully it doesnt turn out like the dsm's did.

hate to bump this thread but I'm having a similar issue with one of my coil packs getting warm when running the engine. Cylinder 2 is not getting spark.

There is a lot of good info on this thread already so did not want to create another just to repeat the same things that have already been covered.

Car is not throwing any codes and I already swapped the coil packs and still same problem. Basically cylinder 2 is not getting spark. Spark plugs were swapped so that is not the issue.

The car previously ran AEM Engine management as well as DLI so the harness was modded prior to the coil packs. I bought another stock harness and replaced all the wires that were previously cut where they meet the coil packs.

I am going to try an ECU swap with another local EVO owner and see if it is the ECU that is fried.

I also PMed the OP here and waiting to hear back from him. I hope to resolve the issue this weekend. As this really sux.

I had the entire engine harness changed on the car. Picked a new ECU. Problem solved. Turns out 1 of the 2 previous owners had spliced the crap out of the original harness this fried the ECU on the car.

since you don't know the history on the car(I think you said this on the previous thread), change the harness on the car because chasing wires is a pain and you really need to know what your doing... Not saying you don't but that wasn't a job for a novice like me so I had someone do it. With the harness changed you start fresh and no potential frying a second ECU given you install the new harness in properly.

The prior owner was a 61 year old retiring full bird colonel from the united states marine corps...... Only mod was a kn air filter haha.


I dont think he messed with the harness. I think I'm just unlucky and the ecu died. Its out at Buschurs right now. I have complete faith they will fix it up...
