EVO 8 Quiet Cams?

I really wanted to go without cams for my car due to the "choppiness" at idle. I do not want anyone to really hear the cams, I am going more for the sleeper look and sound. This is also my DD. I recently changed my mind when I looked at the power gains of cams and was wondering which cams would be the quietest and most economical for a DD.

2003 Evo 8
HKS Hi-Power Turbo Back
Megan 02
BR Ported 10.5 hotside with 8 turbo
BR Ported & JC Stock Exhaust Manifold
Injen UICP & LICP
Greddy FMIC
Injen Intake
Turbosmart Dual Vent BOV (Recirc)
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
1000cc Injectors
ARP Head Studs
Hallman MBC
AEM Boost Gauge, EGT, A/F Wideband
I will be tuning using two different maps E85 & 91 Pump....My goal is to have a 330whp-380+whp Economical/Powerful car. I do not track the car. Just curious if there is anything out there that is quiet. I'm new to engine internals and was also wondering if cams damage the engine at all.

Thanks in advance.

Have you considered HKS 272 cams? I heard it over youtube, I think it's pretty mild comparing to other brands.

I checked them out but in all the videos they sound choppy as well....I don't know, but I heard they quiet down with a tune and they can be set at stock idle?

people say when you tune your car with cams, they should dial in the cams so that it wouldn't be choppy.

HKS272 cams will be nearly undetectable once properly tuned. You could also look at the HKS264 but those are barely even a step up from stock. You *might* be able to get away with GSC S1 cams.

It's all about the tune with aftermarket cams, they can be quiet'd down but any aftermarket cam is probably going to have a lope to it for the most part.

If you are looking for a "quiet" cam then HKS is the brand you want to look at. You also want to keep it small look at the 264, then you can adjust it out with your cam gears and you will have little to no chop.

What kind of power gains can you see with 264's?

I have HKS 272s with idle set at 950rpm. When you first install the cams it will be very choppy but once tuned it is almost not noticeable.

At a low idle almost any cam will be noticeable. If the idle is bumped up a little bit and tuned properly you wouldn't hardly notice a set of GSC S1's.

If your exhaust is piped and strait through it definitely amplifies the sound.

HKS 264/264.

You will love them; they really wake up the OEM turbo.
