I am planning on buying an Evo IX, but I don't know which year to get, or which model. I don't want an MR but could go for any other ones. What are the good/bad things of the different models?

Well since you're in the US, the only year IX you can get is an 06.

 

I was thinking the same. I'd suggest an SE. It's an MR without the six speed and you get some cool red stitching in your seats.

 

Although I wanted a MR since I started my search, I ended up with a SE. I'm happy with it so far.

The SE is the only IX to come with HIDs, an aluminum roof, and a 5-speed from the factory. It's also the second lightest Evo. If those factors are important, then it's the best. I'm really not sure why anyone is comparing a given models designation to the MR; it's not as if it's terribly desirable.

No, it was rated slightly lower than the 5-speed.

No, I'm saying exactly what I wrote and what you quoted: HIDs, aluminum roof, and 5-speed could only be had on the SE.
