As long as you're not getting the manifold red hot and then driving your car into a lake repeatedly, you'll be fine. I guarantee you that even a pouring rain isn't going to be introducing enough cold to crack the cast iron manifold.

honestly, your filter would have to be SOAKED to affect your car...getting rained on isn't going to make your car stutter
The OEM plate is intact along with the mesh wiring

How Macgyer-ish of you. It may come down to that!

i dont know why anyone would waste money on something that is completely ridiculous and unnecessary, but then again people always surprise me

I beg to differ a little on that one. That's like driving with your sunroof open in the rain and saying no water will get in.

Now it might not be enough to matter in the hood vent, but you see where im going

If you're moving, you have an air buffer essentially blocking all downward matter from entering that hole. The lip in front of the hole will push all air over said hole, and the hot air venting from the engine bay will help to further push things out.

@OP sounds like something is wrong with the car. Blocking water from entering there won't do much to fix the problem you're having

1. Keep your hood vent on as it does allow for better air flow than just having the mesh.
2. Keep your manifold heat shields on to avoid cold rain hitting them when hot.
3. Park under cover during the rain or just tape a garbage bag to the top of the vent area when it is raining and you are parked lol.
