Stripped lug nut?

I think I stripped a lug nut and have no clue what to do. I don't even know how i did it but I went to take it off and it kept spinning and wouldn't come off. Does anyone have any experience or ideas on what to do. I don't need it off any time soon, but I am sure I will sometime.

Thanks

^fail^

If the lug nut is turning but just spinning on the stud you can remove the 4 good lugs and pull gently on the wheel to remove the bad lug. Then replace or most likely you'll need to replace the stud also.

Any luck getting the lugnut off?

We had that happen on a Ralliart we had. Ended up drilling out the lug bolt. Being careful not to damage the rim. Needed to have a hardened drill bit and lots of patience.

Actually used a couple different size bits, started small in the center of the lug and went up to larger drill bits until we had a hole almost as big as the diameter of the lug, and then with a pry bar got the wheel to pop off, breaking the rest of the lug bolt off.

Then had to replace the lug. Used a lug nut, and a bunch of washers to pull the lug bolt through and get it seated all the way before putting the wheel back on.

Not so bad if you do, just takes a little bit of time.

Good Luck.

well how'd that work? gently pull on the wheel to apply pressure to the lug-nut as you turn it.
