You should put a light bulb back in it. Make sure it does work then check to see if there is any cel on the car. As for the o2 you need to get that check out to see if its working properly.

If the car runs fine then the o2 sensor is good.

no the car doesnt need the o2 sensors to run... it need them to operate in closed loop afr monitoring...

best way... order the bulb from the dealer or other place... go to autozone and have them run the scan tool on your car... if the sensor is bad the ECU will know and report it.

also i havent paid attention to illinois law in a while... havent been home in 7 yrs. but i know some states like texas make it a class c felony to sell a car with a broke/damaged/missing emissions control system which the o2 sensors are part of. so if nothing else you could get the seller fined if not have them pay to fix the car...

really sorry to hear about your bad luck bro... hopefully they only pulled the bulb to replace it and couldnt find the right one... not because they are hiding a CEL

does matter if the cluster lights up or not...hook up an obd-II scanner and see if the car has any codes

if it does...call up buschur racing or ams and schedule a retune or go to mitsu and get a stock flash

I'm guessing he probably pulled the bulb due to getting a CEL from either having an aftermarket test pipe, DP, exhaust, MAFless etc. There may not be anything wrong with your car at all and maybe the owner was just simply tired of seeing that light all the time.

Like mentioned previously just get it scanned at your local Mitsu and check out what codes you are getting from the CEL.

Very strange, I would personally have a Mitsubishi dealership scan it as autozone could be using some bootleg scanner on your car. If Mitsubishi scans it and nothing shows, you should be in the clear.

Are you sure the wiring is plugged together correctly in the back of your dash? Was the original bulb still there or was it just unplugged? I'd double check all your wiring to see if anything was cut/unplugged.

The bulb was missing,i talked to the previous owner,he said it went on before due to the exhaust. The wiring shows it was tapped in! Rapped up with electric tap,but seems like everything is wire back. Well I droping the car off at mitsu tomarrow car is still under warrenty

the dealer will charge a diagnostic fee wont they? mine does for 86 bucks... evoscan can display any code any of the ecus will hold... thats what i run... and autozone usually runs one of the top notch professional scanners with digital display... least all the ones i've been to.

So I just got done picking up my evo from mitsu and they found out the front o2 sensor was sliced,so there was foul play from the last owner wtf, well good news is that I got a buddy that worked there and fixed the engine service light for free! Now I feel much better since its working, its a shame that someone would sell an EVO like that! Not telling them whats wrong with the car!

Have you told the previous owner about that, wonder what he has to say. Also how did they manage to fix the CEL at the dealer?
