I'm not too sad that we didn't get this stuff. More to break, more to fix, more for Mitsu to deny warranty claims on, kept the cost down. Plus, the new Mitsu rally car did away with all these electronic gizmos in favor of the tried and true torsen mechanical diffs. I'm sure AYC and ACD have their place, but I like my Evo the way it is...all naturale.

True, true. I'm hoping they'll offer it as a factory warrantied upgrade for the US 'non RS' models. Probably won't happen though, and even if it does, it will be too damn expensive. So goes things with Mitsu...

I guess this is one of the times we disagree Eric. I do agree that the 207 RA is a great engine a factor of 10 better than the 205, and the 6MT is a stout beast. I liked my wrx dont get me wrong at all it was fun but I spent much more on the suspension and couldnt even call it acceptable. I had a vishnu stage 2 + TMIC + rails (Using UTEC so it was actually a TXS Stage 4 ++) with a vf 34 so thats 6K+ on the engine. Also had 235 SO3s and race rubber. The only suspension difference from the specC was the very slight wheelbase length. My dual subie/mitsu dealer knew ne well and threw me the keys to a red evo and said bring it back sometime tommorow. Within the first 30 min. I knew this was the chassis, balance, neutral car that even though I plopped 15K into my subie it couldnt touch. On my private test track
I was entering and exiting corners 5-10MPH faster than my personal bests in the subie. Game over traded 350+HP WRX for 271 HP road glue monster

That extra wheelbase that the Spec C has is the key to it be so neutral compared to the other WRXs and STis. It's the one factor that's been attributed to eliminating the push understeer (when one doesn't set up the suspension for understeer like the US-spec STi. Please, understeer in cars of this caliber? SOA is lame).
It's true that the Spec C is the faster and more powerful of the two. I still do not doubt the EVO 8 FQ-300 though. In Autocar, it was pitted against the STi PPP and it smoked the impreza by a small margin.

Can you really say "smoked" and "by a small margin" in the same sentence?? Seems counterintuitive to me. I would never take a Subie for one reason. The 4G63 engine is much more durable, and can handle a lot more boost out of the box. The amount of money it would take to run 22 Psi on a Subie boxer is a lot more than the ol' 4G.
that's why we sti owners turn to the aftermarket. i have no more understeer with my new suspension. i actually out ran my freinds evo at 2 seperate autocrosses. we even traded off cars at the 2nd one and he beat my time in his car . we are about the same driving level. once again, not bashing the evo, awesome car, but to act like there's no hope for subie handling is just blindsided. you just have to match up the right spring/damper rates to your platform. gotta love fully adjustable coilovers
...oh and i foget wht vol it is but the best motorign video i just got compare the evo and the 04 sti,sti spec c,evo8 rs,and evo8 fq. 04 sti has the whole race, with the rs right on it's ***. until the end when the spec comes out of no where and kills them all by at least 5 seconds. mind you this is all stock for stock...

There really aren't very many differences between the US STI and Spec C in terms of suspension. The biggest difference is just the roll bar which has been tuned for more understeer from the factory for the US car, probably to avoid lawsuits from idiots who can't drive.
The awd system and DCCD is exactly the same. The Spec C's engine is also in a stage 0/1 state of tune (not emissions friendly). At a similar level of tune the US STI would make probably 340 to 370 horsepower.
I don't think anyone knows exactly why the Spec C is so much faster in the twisties than the us STI and the Evo.

Impreza, yes I did read your posts. Unfortunately you attributed the Spec C's speed to the wheelbase being lengthened, and that is incorrect.
The Usdm STI has the same front suspension design that adds caster by moving the wheels about an inch forward.
USDM STI and Spec C wheelbase are the same- 2540mm or 100 inches.
