ABS Light On, Squishy Pedal WTF is wrong with this damn thing

Ok so after I lowered the Evo, I noticed a week after the pedal seemed squishy - after 1 pump that goes almost to the floor I let off on the brake, and press again, its at its normal spot in the pedal w/ resistance. When I was putting the suspension on, I didn't pull on the hoses or kink them.

Today I was driving, and headed down the off ramp (about 70mph) pressed the pedal in a little bit and my ABS started kicking into the pedal, like pulsating - but I wasnt even stepping on the brake hard, I was just slowly slowing down. I let off on the pedal and still soft, so I pumped it again and it had its normal resistance. I looked at the dash as I came to a stop and the Anti-Lock light came on.

I got back on the highway and tested hard braking up to speed (about 80) and slammed on the brakes. They locked up and the ABS failed to engage and prevent the tires from squeeling..

I have no idea what the hell is wrong with this damn thing but I've heard it could either be my ABS Module or Brake Master Cylinder, Which I have ordered already to replace. I found a ABS Pump and Module on ebay for 50 bucks used. Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone?!

ABS module and master cyl. makes sense so change those out when you get them and bleed the brakes properly and hopefully that should solve your problem. I doubt it would the ABS sensors tripping off since your having a mechanical hydraulic problem with the pedal going to the floor, most likely the master cylinder when I think about it some more.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. I'm going to start w/ the master cylinder as theres no way to test it and with the difference in pedal resistance due to pumping It makes sense that it would be the cause of whats going on. What really ****s with my head is the ABS kicking back at me and the Anti Lock light poping up on the dash. I think mine is a lemon.

A buddy of mine who is a mechanic said one of the calipers could have failed and the pistons arent retracting when the foot is off the brake, leading to the "squish" in the pedal on the 1st pump, then on the 2nd having normal resistance. Any ideas?

Speed Sensor on one of the wheels was rubbing from when I dumped it. Just replaced the cable - no more ABS light

First of all check your brake fluid and leaks, then DTC,s and go from there. It might not be from the abs module, that spongy pedal is usually from leaks or air in the brake system.

I was going to mention that.
Its not a conincidence that you replaced your suspension and now you have a problem.... ABS issues normally #1 item is to check the wheel speed sensors, its more rare that modulators go bad

how does changing your suspension affect the abs system?

Simple mistake by pulling/tearing the sensor for the ABS.

Bingo, its very common... even the changed riding height etc. can make the routing very close to the hose or sensor causing rubbing in full steering conditions. Going bigger wheels and tires etc also has impact especially in combination.

The routing of brake hose and sensor design is actually pretty difficult under the full range of suspesion stroke and steering stroke in all conditions. This is why you look at say, GM products, they have alot of protectors on their parts to avoid rubbing damage because they dont' go through the detail of designing layouts that never touch or give adequate clearance. You look at a Honda and you'll see the attention to detail, they basically never have any protectors etc in their layouts (adds cost) and there is always very decent amount of clearance. Normally the common person could never fully stroke/rebound the suspension to know this, but trust me, its there

Because with the car sitting lower in the wheel well, the holder for the ABS Cable had too much slack, which made it rub on the inside of the wheel, wearing into the ABS Sensor cable and creating an issue. I didnt think to adjust the slack in the holder because I wasnt aware of the rubbing.
