I have an extra headlight from an Evo IX MR, that I would like to plug in the house and just play with the thing.
Has anybody attempted to do this?
Anybody knows the specs of the headlight?
I know I will need a rectifier and a power supply to give me the right amps,
I just want to get some input from somebody that has done it or knows how to do it.
Thanks
Sergio

first you gotta convert from ac (household set up ) to dc (car set up), so a simple converter that outputs 12 volts will allow you to play with it.

As long as your power supply will output 12V, I am guessing you would need about 15 amps of output to get all the lights (at the same time) to turn on and run at normal brightness. Remember, not all the lights are all on at the same time on the car, so you will need a little more power than what the headlight fuse is in the car..
Or, you could get ballsy and just plug the harness straight into the wall. Make sure to post youtube video link of you doing it, and the aftermath. (Haha) Disclaimer: Dont do that!

No need to switch the power to DC with a headlight bulb but the voltage does need to be fixed. Get a simple 120 to 12vac transformer and call it a day and wire it in like normal.
Make a killer bright lamp that blinds everyone in the room. Or somehow make it into a strobe.

If you're really hell bent on this, get a used 12V power supply. Good ones (up to ~25 amps) can be had for about 250-500 if you search around. They're fun if you're into that sort of thing, I purchased one for my senior design project in college and have kept it around since, its amazing how many uses you can find for it if you have one laying around.

Buy a life size poster of an MR and install the headlight into it.

You can pretty easily convert an old computer power supply into whatever voltage you need. It's pretty simple.

Thanks for all the inputs..
I can get a hold of a couple of power supplies from work..
Ill get hands on and show a video of how the sucker works..

Not sure if I'd go sticking it in a socket. Go for the power supply, should be some good fun.

I'll do that at my neighbors house. I have a couple power supplies I can use, but I like the computer power supply conversion. I'll give that a try!Originally Posted by st_evo

Hell ya lol. I see a house fire in the unforeseen future if ur not extremely careful. I would definately make sure u got it right before plugging it in. Electricity is no joke to experiment with if ur not 100% sure. We would hate to hear of an accidental death to a fellow evom member.Originally Posted by mcm308
Plug that sucker right into the outlet ! Make a video !!
