Be very careful as he can do damage not only to your car but to you as well.

You did a number of things to escalate the situation. Passing quickly on the right can **** off some people, but no big deal. Once he was raging for whatever reason (because you have no idea what is going on in that dude's life) you made it worse staring at him like he was an idiot and making repeated eye contact. That is 100% going to escalate the situation. As a number of people have mentioned, you never know who is carrying a gun or is willing to use it or their car to take you out. On a best case scenario playing speed games or aggressive driving with someone like this is putting anyone near you guys at major risk.

If something like this happens again, its best to slow down, move into the slow lane, avoid eye contact and get out of the situation. If the guy continues to follow you or is causing a dangerous situation, take the next exit or road to get away from him. At that point if he is still following you, use your cell phone to call 911 and report your location the car make and model of the guy and the plates if you can make them out.

I say a combo of all the above in this order.

D, when you first see him.

C, let him catch up to you for a bit.

B, then after he purposely breaks and hits you.

and A after he gets out of the car and starts swearing at your for crashing into him and kicking in his door.

In all reality though, we (Evo, sti, whatever "fast looking" car) will get a lot of crap for doing almost nothing. I say almost because sometimes we think we're not doing anything, but in reality we're passing fast or changing lanes suddenly, and while it's probably fine for everyone on the road, other people get pissed.

I would say don't feed the fire. Let him have his "revenge" and try to shrug it off.

This, of course people get very angry but one should not be driving in the left lane just to be driving since it is the passing lane. Many people get angry over me just driving the speed limit and cuss me as they pass in double yellow but I just laugh it off like "wow what a f-in idiot"

Life goes on and is not worth it to be too upset over things such as this, I usually slow down a few MPH and if they follow even closer then I slow down more but if they don't tailgate then I speed up a little bit and sometimes fly to get out of any situation. Where I'm at there are plenty of crazies that I just want to avoid no matter what the situation if I'm too uncomfortable. I don't carry a concealed weapon so all I have to protect myself is to completely get away from the person in question. Hopefully you will not be put in a situation like the one you were in because sometimes it can be a lot more dangerous than you believe it to really be.

Some people are just crazy when it comes to driving. You don't see this **** going on at the grocery store, right? If it happens again call the police, give dispatch as much information as possible and don't pull over and confront the person. Last but not least, buy a gun, learn how to use it. The police are not always going to be there to pretect you against nutjobs.

b) kick his door in
c) **** him off and record him hitting my car and call the cops
d) have fun w/ him trying to catch me

thought i'd share
I would ask him to pull over, knock him out, and take his keys and toss them in the woods.

Or you ask him to pull over, get shot, and he puts your body in the woods.

This is another likely situation as well.

I love how when a thread like this comes up, all of a sudden everyone is an expert. The fact is that nobody knows what they will actually do in one of these situations until it actually happens to them. Also, when these morons decide to go crazy, you never know to what level of crazy they are or will go to so you can never say "this is how I would react".

Case in point:

The other day I was driving home from work and was almost home. This guy on a side street waits until I am right at his side street and then pulls out right in front of me. I had to slam on my brakes to avoid redecorating the back of his 4runner. Typically I would have laid on my horn at this point, but I was actually in a good mood. I flashed my high beams once instead. This seemed to set the little monkey in his brain all off. He immediately slammed on his brakes hard enough to lift the back end of his car up. I slowed down and just started laughing at the guy since he had to brake so hard and all I had to do was apply light braking.

At this point I backed off a couple car lengths to give the monkey some room and he starts swerving all over the road and almost sideswiped a bus that was in a pickup turnout. He then pulled into the center lane seeming to be turning left on the next side street. I just kept going. No sooner had I passed him, then he floors it and gets all up on my rear bumper. I Kept driving at the speed limit which seemed to give him even more crazy juice. At this point I had reached a turn for my house, but decided that since he was being so crazy there was no way in heck that I was going to show him where I lived so I kept going straight. He kept behind me swerving all over the place and then pulled into the center turn only lane to pass me.

At this point I should have just let him go, but I was starting to get ticked myself so I just gave the evo enough gas to keep him from being able to pass illegally. After he saw that he couldn't out race me in his 4runner he got back behind me and I resumed the speed limit.

Here is where things got interesting, a quarter of a mile down the road, the light turns red. I stop and the light and look back. The guy slammed on his brakes a couple car lengths back, slammed the car into park before it was stopped and then starts struggling with his door and seatbelt. Eventually he gets out and he starts screaming and running up to my car. Your brain imediately starts weighing your options...get out and try to talk him down, get out and start fighting the guy and see who wins, or try to get away. I was afraid he would start pounding on the outside of the car, so I started to go forward to turn right at the light, but traffic didn't allow for me to pull out so I had to stop. When I started going he paused, but when I stopped he started coming up again. So I started going again but again had to stop because of cross traffic. This time he thought I was going for real so he started running back to his car. When I saw that I backed back into my lane. Seeing this he started running back. Finally I had an opening and I turned right at the light and went down the road at the speed limit.

He ran back to his car and chased me down and resumed his crazy weaving, slamming on his brakes, speeding up, and waving his arms. Eventually he again pulled into the center turn-only lane and tried to pass me. This time I just let him go hoping he would drive off and wrap himself around a pole somewhere. As soon as he passed me he swerved in front of me and slammed on his brakes. I assumed he would do that so I had already started slowing down before he was even past me, so no biggy. This seemed to really set him off even more so he swerved into a busstop pullout and slammed on his brakes. I just kept going at the speed limit and he swerves back in behind me...

Now we come up to another light and dang my luck it turns red. I stop and he starts repeating all of what he did before..by this point I was pissed and done, so I picked up my phone and dialed 911 and put it to my ear but did not dial (didn't see the point since I knew that they would never be able to get there in time). He saw this and got back into his car and started thrashing around so much that it was swaying side to side. Light turns green! Nice I keep driving he mashes on the gas, gets all up on me and then swerves right and down the side street going down the left lane instead of the right...moron good riddance.

Moral of the story,
1. Never go home when one of these morons latches onto you,
2. You should probably think twice before doing something that might push one of these knuckle-draggers closer to the edge.
3. Always have something at hand to protect yourself and yours.
4. Yeah afterwards I regretted not getting out and laying the dude out (or at least giving it a shot), but I realize that I made the right choice.

I now have my set of chains in arms reach for the next person who feels froggy.

sorry for the book

At a gas station I pulled up to a pump and before I could start fueling I had this guy screaming in my face. Now, he was twice my age and half my build so I could have pounded him to dust. I looked over at his car and his wife was in the passenger seat looking very scared. It took a little while for me to figure out what as going on. He wanted to use the same pump. This, with empty pumps all around. I figured let him have them all and I drove off.

Another time a road rage driver stopped me. I was riding my bicycle and obeying all the traffic rules.

The point is; there are crazy people out there and they drive cars. Put distance between you and them and report their activities to the authorities. This isn't necessarily about Evos.

lol... 120km/hr not mph. The stretch that leads onto the highway is a long straight, and since i cruise on the hwy @ 120km/hr, thats what i sped up to, not wanting to sit behind two cars that will probably take 10 seconds to get up to speed.

If i ever feel in danger sitting in my car and somoene approaching me thats really pissed off... im poping that **** into first and going thru his legs. Then ill call the cops and tell them im scared for my life and tell them what happened. Im giving anyone opportunity and have myself in danger.

And reporting the activity to the cops is great, but it does jack ish. They simply send him a letter saying "Please dont do that again" yay! He puts my life in danger and gets a letter saying "HI".

It all comes down to decisions; a) be smart about it and leave it alone, or b) take a chance

We have a bunch of case experts on evom it looks like. Out of curiosity, how many people posting responses on what should have been done actually have the credentials to do so?
