selling factory warranty

has anyone sold their factory warranty back? i did a search but only got info on selling the extended warranty. i've got less than 5k on the evo and had it for about 1.5 months and the dealer told me the stage one i'm getting will void my drivetrain warranty. they said i can sell it back but no one could tell me how to go about it. if anyone has any info on this it would be much appreciated. thanks.

you can only get (from what i heard from financing in mitsu) your money back on the extended warantee if you paid the car in full , and then they mail you the check to you and not the bank . since they are the ones that give that money up front went you purchase the car

Also keep in mind that the extended warranty will be pro-rated. I paid $1300 for my extended warranty (not knowing I did) and then cancelled it about 8-9 months later and only got a little over $1100 back.

that is correct... and it is prorated on the car's mileage...

when i had the Galant, i had an extended warranty... traded the car in on the EVO, only had like 7000 miles on the Galant, and still only got like 80% of the extended warranty back...

You should be able to cancel your extended warranty without paying for the car in cash. Not sure how Mitsu does it but with Honda you can always do it and you get a check with a pro-rated amount back.
One thing though - once you cancel it, you can't buy it again later.
Also, if the warranty is built into your financing, your monthly rates usually don't drop but you have few payments less depending on how much you paid for the warranty and how much your monthly is.
If it's like Hondas, your dealer should should have a form you fill up and they send it to mother Mitsu which then returns the check in mail.
If your dealer is telling you othervise, I'd suggest calling the 800 number (Mitsu customer support).
Hope this helped..

Thanks, guys. I was just reading the extended and any slight "alteration" of the manufacturer's original equipment is grounds for a denial of coverage. So with the few mods I have, they will probably deny work under the extended, not the regular. The extended is through a separate company and it seems like it's more strick than the OEM warantee. What a waste of money. And by the time the extended kicks in, I will be heavily modded. Well, I'll talk to my dealer in person and see.

talked to dealer again, they said come in and get a form and the standard factory warranty can be canceled and the refund would go to the principal of the loan. maybe the finance manager of this very large dealership is wrong. we'll see what happens. thanks for the helpful replies.

On a similar note - I bought the "Pit Pass" service contract from the dealership with my Evo. I haven't used it yet (just over 1K miles). Is it possible for me to cancel the service contract and have it applied to the loan?
