Safe to drive?

Hey everyone,

I am planning to get tuned the next following Monday, but I still have a few modifications I have yet to install which are the Walbro fuel pump, FIC 1050 injectors, and GM 3 port w/ spoolin up harness. The shop I am planning to get it tuned at is about 18.5 miles away. I plan on doing most of the installation work at home to save a few bucks, but after reading several other threads, perhaps its best to just pay them to install it. Any suggestions on what to do??

Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated! thx

- Jon

Your car is not going to start and run well if at all with those injectors and stock scaling and latencies.

If you have Cable, ECUFlash, Evoscan you can get them dialed in then drive over there if not pay them to install then tune

So find out if it is cheaper for you to install then tow car there vs having them install them

When I did my injectors I had so one come to me and tune the car. But in your case if the car starts it will idle a little messed up, but if you get it going just stay out of boost. Worst case scenario u do the work car doesn't start, tow it to the shop pretty it will be cheaper then having them do the work

a tow is cheaper than a motor. When in doubt call AAA

Install the injectors at the shop. It should take about no more than 1/2

yeah this is a no brainer the injectors are really fast and easy to switch. Do the pump at home and do the injectors at the shop.

I would recommend a fuel rail and a fuel pressure regulator with 1000cc injectors.

Will this be your first time installing either components? +1 for installing the fuel pump before, going to the shop a bit earlier and installing injectors there. BTW, are you going to FFTEC? If in doubt, have them install the parts. The pros could probably do both with about an hour's worth labor, just about the same as a tow. I'm assuming you are going E85. You will not regret it. Good luck.

if your doing injectors, id def. pay to get that done at a shop due to the scaling, the fuelpump should be fine to do at home

Great info! thanks guys. I am getting it done at fftec and was quoted 125 for install on the injectors and about 75 for the gm 3 port, which is a bit pricey for me since I just got a speeding ticket.

I'll probably have them put on the injectors and install the gm 3 port on my own at home. My question is, will it be okay to drive? as long as I don't boost? or will the car not even start at all.

thanks!

any tips will be great. I might also try going there early to try to put on the injectors myself to save myself a few bucks. As I still have a stock clutch, and that will probably be gone a few days after the tune. haha

with less than 1/4 tank of gas, do the pump at home, if its a drop in anyways.
take your tools with you, go to the shop and change out your injectors ahead of time.
worst case scenario, you cant do them, and pay them to do what you were going to pay them originally. but, injectors are rather easy.

as for needing a new rail + fpr, its not necesary.

blkcarbonevo, aka mikey, told me saturday that his 700+ hp 2.4 fp black is on stock rail and regulator.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to try to do that, head to the shop early and attempt to change them out myself, and if I fail, then I pay the shop. lol.

But does anyone know if it will be okay for me to run the GM 3 port there??

The most cost effective way to do this would be to install the injectors and 3 port on your own and have your car towed to your tuning appointment afterwards.

Running the 3 port there should be fine, but as mentioned above, stay out of boost.

1st post doesnt say 3 port gm (boost controller?) but it does have 2x injectors on ur list :-P

if it is indeed a boost solenoid/controller, i would say wait on that also. you could unknowingly be at 30psi or 5psi

whoops! I noticed that also. haha. Sorry its suppose to be GM 3 port boost solenoid!

I have a boost gauge, so I am more than sure I can keep it out of boost... Or will boost just be that out of control??
