W00t! Picking up my Tarmac Black Evo tomorrow
After many months of trying to decide which car to get (STi or Evo), I finally pulled the trigger. I'm taking delivery of my '03 Black Evo tomorrow afternoon.
I'm really curious to see how it stacks up against my A4. The A4 has suspension, a turbo upgrade (290 hp on pump), and a few other things.
Anyway, just saying that I am stoked and that I hope my first mitsubishi ownership experience works out to be a positive one. I'll only keep this car for a couple years, so hopefully I should be ok.
Anyway, just saying hello

Well the A4 is 500 lbs lighter than the S4 and has better weight distribution. It handles much better than the S4.
Anyway, I picked up my Evo in Boston and drove it *straight home to Atlanta*.
After 1200 miles and 19 hours in the car, I have the following to say:
1. Incredible car. Only a test drive can truly convey the sensory perception this car portreys.
2. Brakes and engine rock. I love how the 4G in this application sounds "soul-full" when it hits full boost instead of "blatty" like a lot of the 1G's I know around my area do.
3. Seat is comfortable, but I"m a taller guy and after 1200 miles of the inside bolsters slightly poking my kidneys, they are a bit sore.
4. The size of the guage cluster in general, ESPECIALLY the speedo is too small. One must study the guage instead of simply glancing down to see the correct speed.
5. No cruise. I'm not lazy, but this car comes to speed so naturally that I found myself at 100 mph more than a few different times completely by accident. Try explaining that one to the cops
6. Finally, the HID's are great. My A4 had a great set of HIDs and these lights on the Evo are definitely at least on par with them. I like how when the highbeams come on, the low beam HID's remain on as well for maximum light production.
Anyway, I think that does it for now. Just a few preliminary comments. Opinions, suggestions?

Another thing that is driving me crazy.
When the transmission is cold, the shifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd result in light grinding of the tranny. I shift slowly with the revs matched and the clutch to the floor, but still get light grinding in 3rd almost everytime until the tranny fluid warms up. VERY annoying. I've gotten to where I just skip 3rd as second will only do it once or twice while cold. Once up to temp, I resume 3rd
