DIY Screen Mesh: Front Bumper

Serious question(s):

Would it be disadvantageous to add a secondary layer of protection...by adding a finer screen/mesh to the front bumper/grille?

I just installed a new FMIC & cleaned the radiator+oil cooler. Here in Missouri...it gets crazy with bugs on the roads. I'm thinking of going to Lowes and buying some of the screen mesh for a screen-door, cutting it to size, and placing it directly behind the factory grille.

I'm concerned about decreasing airflow but...it wouldn't be THAT drastic, correct? Has anyone else done this?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I would be more worried about the screen breaking up during high speeds. Screen door stuff should not be used

I don't think it'd decrease air flow by that much, you might go for something a tad bigger than screen-door mesh if you can though, maybe mesh that's twice the size (hole-size-wise. still small enough to catch most bugs, but ~60% less surface area to catch wind

Like what? I'm having a brain dump right now. I definitely don't want to use a ultra-fine mesh...just need something smaller than the factory grille to keep the suicidal bugs from getting in.

If you were walking down the aisles at Lowes, what section (besides the screen door section) would you check for it?

As for the mesh coming off due to the speed? I don't know...I'd use the same bolts/screws used for the factory grille...plus an additional rubber-washer to keep it from tearing.

i would think some coated steel mesh would be best.. just like the stock mesh only smaller. Not sure where to look for that...

problem with screen door stuff is that its fiberous, like cloth (maybe even plastic), so no bueno. maybe if you put it before the stock mesh, so it has support against the wind

The mesh won't last. I suggest going to a sheet metal company or something and see if they have a heavyier gauge metal mesh.

If you get screen door mesh from a hardware store make sure it's steel mesh, not plastic.

Everything will be fine, it might just look a little funky.
