Install the injectors or wait?

Hey guys and gals,

I have a question regarding driving untuned. I'm going to be throwing my BBK full on this weekend and was thinking of throwing my iFIC 1050's in as well. I'll be driving up to Chicago to get tuned on the 8th or 9th of June before I go to TX for 3 months.

My question is, will I be alright driving from STL to Chicago with the 1050's in the car untuned? I searched but could only find stuff that pertained to driving untuned on a newly built motor.

Would I be better off driving up to Chicago on my stock injectors and having the shop swap my 1050's in once I get there? I would rather not dump unecessary fuel into my motor, and if its not safe or advised against.

Thanks for the help guys.

Kyle

Ask the tuner to send you a base map with the correct injector scaling and latency, then install and drive to get tuned. If you can't get a base map, then wait and do it there.

Now...I'm not saying to drive long distances, however, if you wanted to start the car to move it somewhere, you could use these injector scalings. They are for FIC 1050's, single walbro pump on an '04 Evo VIII:

I used these scalings and they worked great. FWIW, I got them from mrfred.

Dont want to hijack your post, but I got the same situation. The difference is that Im running dw850cc. From my place to the shop is about 50 miles. Is it safe to drive the car to the shop with the injectors on?

You already run pig rich from the factory, so by throwing those injectors in your dumping that much more fuel into it. It wont run good at all and you have a good possibly of washing out the cylinders. So NO, dont drive with them in UNTUNED.

Definitely wait. It only takes a couple of tools and 20 minutes maximum.
I put FIC 880's in before my 1.5 hour drive to get tuned, and it was spitting and sputtering the whole way there.

Good luck!
