are you a racer if you own an evo?
I guess I'm the odd one out here. I race my car for sure, but would never use it for DD duties. Stiff suspension, no cruise control, droning exhaust and crappy gas mileage!?!? No thanks. I'll have fun with it maybe once a week and go drive something that isn't as obnoxious to drive. It's a fun car, no doubt about that. More fun than any other car I've driven. At the same time when I'm just trying to get from A-B, it's 900 degrees outside and tons of traffic I would rather have my rear end in a smooth riding car with good A/C.
Plus we have almost no interesting roads to speak of near here. And with gas prices as high as they are I refuse to pay that much for gas. I'd rather drive a boring car slowly 5-6 days a week and get 35+mpg then to drive my fun car in a boring way and get 15mpg or so. Put it this way I drive my g/f's Chrysler Sebring WAY more than my Evo and I'm perfectly happy with that!!

I have to agree with all those saying that you need to experience what your car was designed for, albeit, still a street car.
My Evo sits in my garage most of the time and I'm perfectly happy sitting in mindless traffic for hours on end in my corolla. Driving the Evo in those conditions just feels like a waste of a good car.
So in an effort to avoid having a garage queen, I've been doing autox and trackdays. After my first trackday I thought to myself, "I've never actually driven this or any car until today. I've simply been transported or carted along in all my years of driving".
My point is that if you're safe and smart about it, you having tons to gain from learning to actually drive the car that you like to stand tough next to in the parking lot.

lol I've gotten asked this multiple times and I alway say........ Because I can lol, it's my car and I drive it how I want. People think it's a waste to have one if you don't race it, imo it's a waste of time to ask dumb questions lol.
i drive my evo all the damn f#cking time because i can't stand to drive anything else.
Go to the grocery store? Evo
go to the movies? Evo
go to work? Evo
go auto-x? Evo
go to the dragstrip? Evo
go to grandma's house? Evo
go on a road trip? Evo!!!
Why would you not want to drive the evo? Who cares if you don't race it. My other cars though have a lot less miles.

*disclaimer: one can safely explore the limits on a coned-off Auto-X style track on an airstrip with ****-tons of runoff, because they can spin the car to their heart's content without risk of contacting solid objects. But it would be a while before a novice could reach the limits considering the multiple sets of tires that they would go through.*
What follows is talk of dedicated track cars, built Neon's, why the Evo is one of the most-wrecked, etc. Boring stuff really that has probably been covered a jillion times in the race section.
The Evo is not a good beginning track car any more than a GSXR-1000 is a good first bike. I know several experienced, mature, level-headed track guys that have crashed their Evo's on the track. Before I'd tell someone with no experience to hit the track with their Evo, I'd tell them to buy a $2k Miata / Focus ZX3/ Neon and get it to pass tech. I HATE the Miata argument, but spinning your street car into a tire wall because of a slight error is way more expensive and less fun.
No you do not have to be a racer to own an EVO. I love driving my Evo as a daily driving car. My car is fully modified and love the fill of a 400 hp rocket went you need to enter the freeway. Just knowing I have power in my car keeps me satisfied.
