I've been trying to find the article by EVO magazine that test-drove the US spec EVO when it first came out. Does anyone have the link?

 

I don't believe there's a link. evo magazine has a pretty crappy website, but a great mag (the opposite of US mags). I know that article came out in April 2003 or so, because I read that article (and how the Evo beat the new STi) before I left for the dealership to trade my S2000 in for the Evo. The UK reviews came well before the US mags came out and were instrumental in my decision to take the Evo over the STi.

AutoExpress has basically the same stories as Evo.

 

I have the actual issue (I keep all my evo mags and CAR magazines) - it is much more detailed than the AutoExpress article and is very performance-specific. The bottom line was that the editors felt the US-spec Evo was actually more fun because it was more mechanical. They felt there was more feedback and controllability. They also felt slighted (in the UK) that the US got the 2.5L/300hp STi.

 

I see... Can you go dig up the issue and scan the article for us?

Scroll down to "Mitsubishi" and you'll see the test from 12 Feb 2003. They also have articles listed under "Road Test" and "Fast Fleet," but these are all for UK model Evo 7 and 8's.
