You're right about the sequential part, but who knows if they really start at "000001" and count up.

A little history...
A bunch of people tried to find out production numbers on the 2002 VW GTI 337 Edition (my previous P.O.S.) and were unsuccessful. It turns out that VW randomly grabbed 1500 silver GTI's and decided to make them 337 editions during manufacturing in Brazil. The VIN's had already been established. If you look up the VIN for a 337 Edition in CarFax or for insurance purposes it just tells you it is a 2002 GTI 1.8T GLS or something like that...I don't remember. Anyway, people were pissed because they had no way of proving their car was ultra-limited (1500 made for the US) by using the VIN. But, stupidity out of Volkswagen was something I came to expect.
