I'm looking to buy a new Evo next week. Are some production batches better than others? Are there any that are known to have problems?....any that seem to have stronger engines? What part of the vin deterimes when the car was built?

The build date is on the driver's side of the frame. I don't know if there's a definitive "stronger" batch - my car was a March 2003 build and it has been completely problem-free.

 

the build date determines when the car was built...

i have a February model, and have not had any issues...

 

Only difference I have seen between older and newer EVO's is the "oh ****" handle design.

mine was built jan 03 and ive had a bunch of problems with it already.. it says it is the 583rd one built. so i have had on of the first ones built i guess. this sucks

 

How do you know what number is it?

i went 13.2 at 103 with a 1.7 60ft stock 1st time at the track
i would think they fist batch is faster

 

well i have the very 1sy bacth, jan 03 i went 13.8@97 with a1.9 60ft.. so i duno what your talkin about..

 

mine says it was built in may but mine also says 583, so i dont think that 583 is the number evo you are

 

3/03 and no probs yet.

 

January 03 car also.. First batch early build according to the dealer (I think their full of crap about knowing if it was an early build) I've had virtually no problems (1 warranty repair) and run an average of 13.1 in the quarter with a best of 12.93.. I did have a defective boost control solenoid which kept the boost at 19psi through redline which explained the significantly better performance than most though. (this was when the car was stock, I now have a few mods to it)

 

Don't the last 6 of the VIN tell the sequence? Don't they start with number one and as they build more of that model increment the number sequentially?

 

i'm not sure, does anyone know about that?
