Am I getting way too in over my head?
I'm sort of at a crossroads on my modding path. I have all these parts ready to be installed (Exedy Twin HD clutch, FP HTA Green, 880cc injectors, just to name a few...) and just a week ago I was totally pumped up about having this 500whp street car.
After doing a lot of reading on this site and searching through tons of old threads, I'm starting to realize that I'm about to enter a whole world that I may not be ready for. My car is not quite a daily driver but I drive it more often than I'd like. With the amount of power I'm looking to put down I'm starting to realize that I'll have to worry about my motor blowing, my meth kit failing, and all these other dangers.
I'm not ready to build my motor nor do I want to. I rarely take my car to the track and pretty much grandma it unless I'm feeling spirited and want to rip it down an empty highway. I didn't really want to turn it into a racecar, but it looks like I'm headed in that direction. All I wanted was a fast headturner that I could feel proud of driving every day.
I'm starting to get doubts and I'm thinking of selling my car and all the parts I just recently bought and going down another road. (Maybe a Corvette? Or an M3?) I hate to say it but I'm actually starting to get sick of my EVO. It's the same symptoms I developed with all my old DSMs. I loved them for the first two years but then sold them and got something else.
So what would you guys recommend? Should I put the parts in and get it re-tuned and drive my ticking time bomb around or should I reconsider and start fresh somewhere else?
It's really stressing me out and I know this hobby shouldn't. I love my car but am I getting in over my head? Thanks for reading...

Well I'm not worried about the tuning aspect. I've brought my car to Ivey several times and I've never had a problem. They installed my meth kit too. It's just like...I've lost all motivation to keep modding. All my friends got out of the game...We all used to go to the track together several years ago. Now I'm the last one and it sucks.
Get rid of meth since all sorts of issues can arise with it. That's your ticking time bomb. Change cams to s2's in order for your car to not fall on its face and great mid range high range gains over the cosworth. Keep all your other parts. put the fp green on, ge the 18psi wg actuator or 25 psi, put your injectors and twindisk on, spoolin up.
There is no risk with that combo since you wont have meth and run pump. Your motor won't blow with pump and boost not being high. Keep the torque below 400. The true effect is just one hell of a street car, modded tastefully. Keep everything else as is and get a hell of a tune. M3's and corvettes are plagued with problems and are far more costly when a failure happens. when you look at the graph of your new setup, you'll have a grin on your face.
Don't sell it, enjoy it for what it is, a great handling awd car with modifications for better performance but not full death mode street car. I dont think ill ever build my block or transmission because I don't feel i need to. Just make it ultra smooth power delivery, great torque downlow and not fall flat on its face up top.
To appreciate the evo, get a killer tune

Yeah that's a good point man. I just don't think I'm ready to take the financial hit that may come from a blown motor. I had a beater car but had to give it to my little brother who was in desparate need of a car. It's tough daily driving my EVO everyday. It's lost its charm and feels more like a drag going to work than anything.

Do you have a daily driver or something to get away from the evo?
I've been looking into a Jeep Wrangler as something totally different that I can drop a little money into and have a different kind of fun. Let the evo sit in the garage for a couple weeks, and if you don't miss it, sell it.

I know how you feel I have gotten like this before and most of my friends don't have cars anymore but I just add more power and it puts that smile right back on my face.
As indicated in my profile i have a 97 celica. You should also get an old car like a civic etc for great gas mileage for commuting. Every now and then drive your evo. Sell your meth kit, just bolt on your turbo and detune to pump lower psi and your motor will be fine mid 400s mid to upper 300s torque. And save your money that way, get an old car and daily drive it. If music helps when you drive, get some nice speakers and head unit. It goes a long way. The evo imo isn't as fun daily driven all the time. Great for weekends or night time driving. Nothing beats an old car thats manual with 38+ mpg for daily driving. a built motor costs more than some used cars like a 97 civic with 150k miles.

Lately it just seems rather pointless to add the mods though. I barely race/track my car (haven't gone to the track in like 2 years), and I would never use the car to its fullest. I don't have a beater so if something did happen to my EVO I'd be SOL. I don't know if I'm ready for that. It would be such a huge mess and I feel like I'd rather avoid it all together.
I am strongly considering dumping the meth kit though. But then I have to pay to have that removed. Seems kind of ridiculous. Not to mention my ETS UICP now has a hole in it thanks to the meth kit so that's stuck there and will have to be plugged I guess...

If you're really thaaat fed up of putting money in. Then the best thing is to plug the pipe, sell meth kit, sell the green, sell the injectors. Get an excellent tune on pump and use your money to build a small "savings" for getting a reliable old beater to daily drive. Corollas and civics have held up from my experience. dd at nearly 200k miles now 0 issues. To sell and get an m3 counters your reason for sellling. You'll need to put money into an m3 for maintenance. m3 repairs are not fun. gas is not great either. If you still don't want to do this then by all means get a lexus is or some type of "non money pit" vehicle or "headacheless" car instead of an m3 or vette
