Good luck getting one imported and legalized. Basically it won't happen. Whatever you do DO NOT go through evolution imports. You will pay-they will not deliver. For refrence search the forum for "evolution imports". Just get an E8.

If you can convince the dealership you're a serious buyer they should let you drive one. Never buy the test-drive car; and be prepared to have your brain seriously twisted by the drive. USe LOTS of self-control when talking with the dealer after driving.

In fact it might be safer to work the deal first, dependent on you liking the test drive; that way your emotions won't cloud the deal. The car IS that big a change from almost everything else on the road.

When I went with my husband to test drive the EVO and the STi, both dealers were hesitant to let me drive the cars. I basically told them "How am I supposed to make my decision without driving the car?" They came back with the keys so we can go for a ride.

That's 15,000 pounds NOT dollars. The cheapest VII I saw was 15,499 pounds (31,089.92 USD). Add another $10,000 just to get it over here. Then you have to convert it to legal specs. I hope you have a lot of cash. There is a reason that no one does this.

I'm not completely guessing on these numbers either. I know someone that bought a TME and had it shipped over here. His cost to his door was $45,000. The car was still no where near legal to drive on US roads either. That was a few years ago. He paid around $34,000 for the car. The rest was shipping and duty stuff.

The best place to get an Evo is at your local dealer...

I still don't understand why anyone would waste their time importing an Evolution from another country when you can go down to a Mitsu dealership and purchase one.

I emailed EI before I made this post, but as soon as I saw all this I emailed them again saying nevermind this is what they say:

-- I dont understand why you would say never mind. We are the only
company out there who is currently working with the government to
certify the Mitsubishi lancer Evolution VII and VIII. I dont know what
you have been reading but you did not even give us a chance to defend
ourselves before you made up your mind. We have completed the process
with the Evolution VIII and are expected to be done with the VIII
before march 1. As for your orginal request we are not able to
certify for you a right hand drive car. Yes you are right there are
many right hand drive cars out there but that does mean they were
brought in by strictly legal standards. The only people who are able
to bring in and sell and right hand drive car is motorX with their
skyline. The portion of our site that advertises non street legal
right hand drive cars were intended for clients who do not live in the
US.

I agree with erioshi, when I went to pick up my Evo and took the test drive I would have been willing to pay more for the car. Luckily I had already worked out my deal with them so we just needed to sign the paperwork.

Why not to buy the car you test drove? I had mine all set up to purchase (thru a credit union car store) and did a quicky test drive before taking it home. Is this due to myself treating it badly? How common is it that they would abuse it before the engine was broken in?
