Hey guys. Does anyone have the dimensions of the hood on an Evo 8 and 9 for me? Also how do the hinges bolt up... thank you!

This will sound offputting m8, but why do you ask? I'd happily take some dimensions for you but I won't get to it until next week (traveling)...

Perhaps if you share your intentions, someone else may have some more info to offer?

Ok well I am bringing two early evo's that were wrecked, back to life.
It can be hard to get hoods etc... So I just wanted to know how much different the new ones are.

You talking Evo 1/2/3, or 4/5/6/6.5? All of those hoods are different. If you're in the states... you can use a 1996 and earlier Mitsubishi Mirage (lancer) hood for the E1/2/3, and a 1997-2001 Mirage hood for the E4/5/6/6.5. But of course those are "just hoods". You typically can find the go fast bits for those bonnets and just cut and weld them in, or you can go aftermarket.

I can tell you on my E5, I had the front bits come in from Sri Lanka (via the high seas ) and I had the trunk lid and spoiler come in from the UK.

If you go anything other than stock though... get hood pins.

So no... an Evo 8/9 hood won't fit any other Evo. They're generation specific.

But it might be easier to get one of those, and mod it to fit... or get a CF one and mod it... etc.. sorry for asking guys.

No need to apologize... I personally don't think it would be "easier" but it might be. My suggestion if you're looking to modify would be to get a stock USDM Mirage hood for your model year (gen) (Evo 1/2/3 is 4th gen, and Evo 4/5/6/6.5 is 5th gen) and cut the appropriate holes in it. The easiest would be to "modify it" to accommodate the current Evo hood ports I'd think.

So like... get a 4th gen Mirage bonnet (for ur 93) and then get some stock E8 or E9 hood ports and meld them all together...

I have the two original evo hoods. One is in good condition, the other has been damaged (but I can take the vents out of it). I also have a dodge colt (mirage in the states) that is the same size of hood etc. I do not know if they clear the engine properly however. As they are not 'cowled' up like the original one. I understand that I could cut holes and put the proper vents in.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Hey guys just as a future note. The colt and Mirage hoods do fit. But they will not latch properly. The timing belt sticks up a lot higher on the 4G63 engine than the one in the mirage/colt so it simply does not clear..
I am going to try cutting a slot for the timing belt cover to pop up through the hood, and see if it clears the rest of the engine, in the distant future.

OH BLAST! I KNEW THIS! It's because of the DOHC vs. the SOHC... iirc you SHOULD be able to just cut through one of the hood supports though... I don't think you'll need to cut all the way through the hood?

IF that ends up as the case... you could always just fashion a bulge into the hood similar to how the eclipse had its setup...

That was my basic idea once I cut it out I would find a way to make a bulge that I could fit to it
