what should I buy?
what should I buy?
I bought a brand new 2005 WW lancer evolution off the show room floor back in 2005, I sold it in 2007, biggest mistake, I have missed the car ever since, and haven't owned anything I liked as much since(my viper is pretty close though). I am looking at buying another evo now, but not sure what I want. I would like to find a clean 05 or newer evo 8 or 9, because I know the car. would I like a evo x, what are the pros and cons of owning one over the other. thanks for you help
I have a evo 9 and my cousin has a evo x. And we swapped cars for a few days. And they're totally different. The x is much more daily driver friendly in form of more refinement and accessories. The x was stock suspension and drove and handled very nice. But you can definitely tell its a bigger car. The power is there but it comes to boost more linear in power and doesn't "kick" as hard as the 9. But it definitely moves. But I do love the 9. I was lucky enough to find clean a 9 SE model. I would not trade it in for x. But if I could id buy a x and keep the 9 and use the x for daily driving.
ps: if your looking for a 9 GG SE. I might be interested in selling it. I'm from Illinois also

I hope you mean newer models, but then you'd still be wrong. The Evo X are a bit heavier and I don't see how having extras gets in the way of going fast. And if you really mean earlier models ( evos 1-6? or 7-9) either way they're going to break down faster than a new Evo X considering they are, well OLDER and the technology isn't as good

I would also go with a IX if I were you. Mitsubishi tried to make a car that would appeal to more people with the X by adding more creature comforts. In doing so they made a car that was heavy and got away from what the evo was supposed to be. I think the IX looks much better also. This is the IX forum though so I'm sure most will say IX.
For me it was the IX. The X at the time seemed like a great DD car but thats not what I wanted. It all depends on your build path to be honest. Later next year I am getting a X just for DD only.
Even if you list all the pro's and con's of both it will still come down to a question of preference.
Since the older models have been around longer you'll get a broader aftermarket as well as a wealth of information, meaning if something goes wrong chances are that it has happened to someone else already and they've solved the problem, meaning troubleshooting will go quicker. But then we get back to the age, they will be more prone to breaking down and you don't have a warranty to cover damages if they aren't your fault.
Now obviously with a brand new X you'll have the warranty and the comfort that you are the first owner. But from what I've read it doesn't feel as sporty as the older models. Being newer parts will be more expensive and you won't have as wide a range of aftermarket. But you do gain more safety features like side curtain airbags.
When it comes down to it, if the reason you want an Evo again is because you miss your 05 then I would go with an 8 or 9 over the X. That's just my two cents though
