I assume this is because of getting a different cluster?

I believe you have to take it to the dealership and have to get proper paperwork done. But yes it can be done, I recall reading about the stuff needed on here before.

You need paperwork and a shop has to do it or it's illegal.

Not possible to just swap out the entire cluster? They should all be plug-in-play...

The milage is stored in the cluster.

If you just swap a cluster your milage will read differently than the one you took out.

as an example...lot of us base models run diff clusters from stock.. es guys have oz clusters or es/oz are running evo 7/8/9 clusters.
clusters are plug and play but majority of them [ ones who swap out the clusters ] if not all are way off on milage.
the only time i can see a problem if u try to sell the car with a odo where its milage is way off. even if u swap out the cluster u still have to have it reprogramed...

i put in a evo8 odo in my oz and it works just fine, i waited 3k miles to install it so i can have the milage be %100 accurate.
i been runin mine for close to 20k miles and have no issue as all.. when i recieved it i swapped it in quick to do a post and got a odo reading and then i waited 3k miles i think to put it in for good. marked the odo so when my oem odo hit that mark, i literly went in house at 10pm at night to get cluster and install it in street

You also have to remember that mileage is also stored in the ECM, so when the shop resets the mileage on the cluster, they also have to match it to the ECM if its the OEM one to the car.
