Porting or Extreme

Work is under way on my Evo 8.

I am taking down the ex manifold for coating. I was offered porting and also EXTREME porting.

Why should I spend the extra CASH to get this EXTREME porting?

Any help is appreciated cause it seems unnecessary.

Send it to Buschur Racing for manifold porting and coating. They are located relatively close to you. Their porting is proven to provide power. They wont jerk you around. They have ported twice as many manifolds as all the others combined. What else?

PPI does good porting but keep in mind that porting too much can have negative effects. Buschur's porting is a bit milder than PPI's but either one are great choices.

Can you explain negative effects of extreme porting?

Yes, PPI is very good too. Do you have any idea what is included in the extreme port job that you mentioned? How does extreme port job differ from the standard porting?

I'm pretty sure it's just external porting where they remove the dummy ports and heatsheild holes.

IMO, there really is not too much that can be done on the stock exhaust manifold that would require extensive porting. A mild port job and gasket match at the turbo flange is about it. A lot of people advise against overdoing the intake flange ports at the cylinder head.

So, I am curious what they mean by extreme with respect to the stock exhaust manifold. By contrast, you could get relatively more extreme with the stock intake manifold though.

Yeah you are probably right. PPI does grind down all of the bosses and make it look extremely nice with an excellent looking coating. This is mostly cosmetic, but it does end up looking really fine.

Just thought I would stop in and explain some of the differences in my manifold porting services.

First is our "standard porting". Where the manifold is gasket matched to the hotside and blended back into the collector. The head side is port matched to the head and blended back into the runners about 4".

I started offering our "extreme porting" after many requests from customer of something that was ported more than standard. After quantifying the results on my own vehicle I made this service available to the public. The collector is fully ported and polished and the runners are ported as deep as I can reach with conventional tooling. I do not simply "hog" out more material but I create the smoothest path possible for airlow while providing the path of least resistance that I can. I explain this option is only justifiable for those people really looking for that extra 1-2 whp. They are really trying to max out their vehicle and have a good exhaust that wont restrict the extra porting by this service.

I also offer an "externaly machined" option which is cosmetic only. Its intent is to give the manifold a cleaner look and really looks nice when coated and not running a heat shield. This process also saves over 2 pounds....making a common option for my auto-x & track customers who want to save every ounce.

Here are some pictures of my work.

I trust this helps and I appreciate the support!
Thank You,

Wow this is a good pic of said work!

Smoothest match I've seen to date. Very impressive.
