Any of you guys road trip in your evo?

I was wondering if any of you guys do any road trips in your evo? I'm still in the market for an evo, but road trips is something that I do alot of, being that I live in FL, to go anywhere fun you have to drive ex. key west, orlando, northern or west coast FL etc. I was wondering how is the evo on road trips. Im know the mpg is great especially when comparing to my gs300. Something that I'm really looking forward to is how fun the evo can be driving wether it be just crusing or getting where I'm going in a hurry.

I wanted to know hear what kind of experiences you guys have had on long trips with your cars. ex. comfort, leg room, storage room and what ever else you might have to say about taking these cars on road trips.

thanks

I've done a couple of road trips in the 150-200mile range in my car over the years. The gas tank is smallish so you'll still have to stop fairly frequently for gas. The trunk is also pretty small due to the rear suspension....you can get 2 mid-size or 1 large suit case in there, so you might have to use the backseat if you have lots of stuff you need to lug around. Ride quality truly depends on the setup of the car, if its a GSR with stock suspension it will get annoying by mile 100 or so....MRs ride a bit better. Leg room, I am 5' 9ish so its ok for me...taller folks might have more issues.

I'm military so I have done a few long drives: Kansas to Connecticut (Straight thru) and back, Kansas to Georgia and back, and from last years Evo DSM shootout in Ohio to Kansas.

While cruise control would be nice for those long trip all and all I don't really have any other complaints.

Hated it every 1000 mile trip from nj to fl and back thru college. Also more than 3 hours suck cause the recaros have horrible support for your back

I have taken road trips anywhere from 100-800 miles. I have traveled down to Destin, FL and Auburn, AL. I have packed for two people and the luggage and such for both and it was no issue. Comfort was fine.

Recently I took a road trip up to Champaign, IL and it was no issue. I even got 29.7 MPG with 5 gear cruising and little to no boost!

My car is fairly stock but the MPG is a reflection of just mods that have helped the gas mileage some. Also...that is on stock tune.

I've done a couple of road trips with the Evo including a couple 4 hour trips to northern PA from Baltimore MD and several couple hour trips out to Summit Point WV. I don't think it was bad at all, but where I'm at with the car, I won't be driving it for those types of trips any more. It's a "fun" car and dedicated track **** at this point. I'm leaving it street tagged for now, but it will be trailered up to the track next season and I will not be putting excessive mileage on it. Especially since I'm making the change to E85 and hoping to start competing in time attack events. All of that being said, its not too bad for longish trips if you don't mind the noise and mediocre gas mileage.

thanks guys for all the input.

I understand what a few of your are saying as far as the evo being your track car. I already have mines in my itr, and I plan on having the evo as my fun daily. I dont plan on doing much with it but suspension and wheels. as far as road trips I hardly think any of them will be longer than 4 hours 300 miles tops. I was hoping that the stock recaro would be comfortable especially have good back support. I am 6'4 and 195 lbs im not the smallest guy but I've felt quite comfortable in the evos I have test driven. 2 mid-size suitcases would be ideal for storage only person on road trips is me and my girl.

Keep them coming, This is really helping. thanks

I have driven my car to the IDRC event in May at Summit in Norwalk, OH and back no problem. No cruise control makes for a sore ankle but you find your own ways to get comfortable. I also drove it to the recent Shootout in the same place and it wasn't bad at all. I have Eibach Pro's on my car, and it was still a nice ride. I usually put about 1000mi on her on those weekends, no complaints. It's an awesome car to drive.

I've only had mine 2 months and love it on the highway. Granted I live in the mountains so that may help. Twisty roads and people to pass. Super fun!

Drove it straight from LA to Norcal as soon as I bought it. Seemed like an easy trip but with the lack of anything in the middle of Cali I was almost stranded at night because I couldnt find any gas stations. Will say in the Evo you do need to watch your gas a lil more than in a regular car, expected though. Recaros werent a problem for me but Im not the biggest guy either. Making one in Nov. driving from ATL back to Texas, looking forward to it.

I road-tripped with my IX quite a bit. Drove it around the Great Lakes and to/from Minneapolis/Dallas a few times.

First day I bought my used IX, I drove it straight from NY to MN - 20 hour road trip and it was fun! I have a bad back but the recaro seat saved my life the whole way. Too bad I was the only driver but I'd definitely do it again! Like everyone says, gas goes down fast. Wear comfortable shoes cuz those pedal needs constant pressure without the cruise control.
