Daily Driver Evos
Daily Driver Evos
Quick question for yall
planning on getting an evo from a dealership soon, I have been on and of with it nearly 3 times because of pricing. This time I just don't care and I will be getting it. plan on payng it off in 2-3 years
It will be my daily for a couple years and I built a turbo lancer and had that car for nearly 4 years and the only issue I had was the clutch boosting 17 pounds.
Will I have alot more issues with parts breaking if I drive it decent? I will be on it maybe like once in awhile but she won't be touching the track until its paid off. Just need to kow before I make a decesion "I know how to install my own parts"
what issues have yall seen being it your daily driver?

I have never had anything break on my evo and its modded and I drive it pretty hard. For ultimate reliability you should keep it stock, or just lightly mod. The thing with these cars is that they are really very very reliable but you should be prepared for some down time just in case. My car would never be down if I would just stop working on it.
If you beat on it, things will break, if you take care of it, it will take care of you. Do regular maintenance, don't let fluids run low, and don't launch the ***** off it and you'll avoid 90% of the issues you can have with a stock or lightly modded car.
The engine is stout, but the clutch will need replacing sooner than later if you ab(use) it....its just the way the stock clutch is.
Hope this helps, enjoy your purchase.

I bought my IX brand new in December '07. I haven't had a single issue with it, been an extremely reliable car. I am pretty nice to mine, although its impossible to not get on it at least once or twice every time I drive somewhere. Evo's are tough cars and as long as you treat them well and keep up on all maintenance, they won't let you down. You shouldn't have any issues if you drive it decently.
It's been pretty reliable when I was dailying it for the last 3 years. In the end, I just got a cheap beater because I couldn't take how uncomfortable the ride is and how loud it is. Now, it's getting a built motor and getting a lot of chassis things fixed.
Never had a major problem out of mine, the only real problems came from the previous owner buying parts from ebay(exhaust manifold cracked in a billion places) that's bout it though.

yeah ive had 2 evos and they were very reliable.
if you get really serious with your modding your gonna run into problems. if you are really worried about reliablilty then i would keep your mods light.
ive driven LOTs of cars and im sure most people on here will agree that not a lot of cars drive like the evo. good luck!

well, since there are so many "i've never had a problem" going on in here I'll let you know my evo still has less than 55K miles and its 100% stock... the TC blew, the ACD pump went, the FR axle boot blew, and I got my calipers replaced... and I rarely drive the car..... if you had to replace those things new under your own pocket it would cost $5-6k (or buy used parts)
Other than that I agree with ^^^ him

It all depends on how heavily you mod and how hard you are on the car. I've owned the car since it was new off the lot and the only issue I have had so far is the ACD pump going out which was replaced under warranty.
Still on stock clutch, transfer case and transmission. I'm not making a ton of power or anything but certainly enough to break drivetrain components. Respect the car and it will return the favor.

Think about 5 years down the line before making an investment like this, dont rush
Well put
. To OP, if you're under 25 I would stay far away from an evo as- insurance will eat you alive. I unfortunately learned the hard way
. 2.5 years later insurance is down I'm more than half way paying this thing off.
If you're really looking for one look for 03-04: as their cheaper.
And rule of thumb to owning a evo is you have to pay to play.
I absolutely love daily driving my evo. GL

I bought my Evo IX-MR brand-new. It now has 84K miles on it. It is daily driven to/from work and picking my daughter up from school, etc. The only think I won't do is taking it to the malls! Look below to see my mods (+ more on the way!). I drive it hard, but treat it with 'kid gloves' when it comes to maintaining it. This car has NEVER let me down! I don't use any cheap, inferior parts on it - it's an Evo! Stay current with the maintainence and yours will be FINE. Good luck!

I've been daily driving mine, and have loved every moment in it. Unless you regularly carry a LOT of stuff, or are worried about fuel economy, you'll love driving yours too.
Enjoy the new car!
