Shaking steering wheel [not brakes?]
I've been battling a shaking steering wheel for almost a year now with my 03 evo 8. At first it was typically at highway speeds while driving and the wheels that came on the car (stock enkei's) were beat up and tires were worn so i got a new set of wheels and tires. That didn't do much.
So then I went and got a good 4 wheel alignment at a local shop. The vibrating went away while driving, but then while stopping the wheel would shake. It felt as though the rotors were warped. So I replaced both the front and rear rotors and pads. The shaking went away and all was well.
Now I did the brakes in like January or February of this year. Slowly but surely the shaking of the steering wheel while braking came back and I don't know what else to check. The ball joints/tie rods are all fine, suspension is fairly new, bushings look good. Steering rack isn't damaged or leaking. Inner tie rods are fine.
I'm running out of idea of what this could be?! Anyone?

does the vehicle pass inspection? lol when was the last time ya had it inspected properly? just sayin cuz i have the same issue with another car of mine and it actually has bad tierods and a balljoints in it, has a bad cv too but i get the same shakey wheel sometimes under braking other times just randomly tire ballance could also be an issue. wheels may be bent? do u have any type of spacers on the wheels? sometimes dirt or rust may form behind them and off center your wheel causing the same issue. many possibilities id check those first.

without even reading your post, first thing i recommend is you check your wheels. could be balanced improperly, dent in the wheels, bulge in the tire etc. this is the most common issue when people ask this question saying its not there brakes.
if i wasnt so lazy id link the other threads. but gl and hopefully you get it resolved

how were they ballanced? just simple weights on the outsides of the wheels or did they use stickies on the inside as well, those things fall off all the time. sometimes an aftermkt wheel that looks nice a simple mech will not put any weights on the outsides of the wheels because they can be seen and some ppl dont like that. when they do this its called a static ballance and they just ballence the inner most part of the wheel. on a ballancer the wheel will read ballanced and may not be felt under slow driving conditions at highway speeds 60 70+ u will get a vibration. also a better way to have your wheels and tires ballanced is by a road force ballancer they work very well. another issue i have with my evo ix i have had before somewhat of the same thing. the wheels and tires ballanced out perfectly. buttt the front tires both had a slight almost unnoticeable up and down motion or tire hop. in a straight line when bot the high and low spots lined up there was absolutely no vibration but go around a turn and the inner and outer wheels change speeds and the high and low spots didnt match up and i would get vibration go around another turn and they would line up again making this an intermitant condition lol. simple things will cause a vib. its easily fixed when u find the cause but it may take some investigating to solve where its coming from. when ya find out lety me kno im always interested in fixed incase i come across the issue again ,p

Yes, based on the evidence I would say it has to do with the brakes too. This ONLY happens when the brakes are applied. I did do proper brake in when brakes were installed. I just don't understand how the rotors could warp so quickly when I don't even race the car and barely drive it hard at all. I drive it like a little girl because I DON'T want parts to wear out so fast. I'll re-do the brakes and see what happens.
